Porsche 911 Carrera, Carrera 4 exhaust recall affects 47 cars in Oz

A total of 47 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 models have been recalled locally due to a fault with the cars' exhaust systems.

According to the official recall notice published on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) website, the Porsche 991 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 vehicles built between November 3, 2011 and November 14, 2012 were fitted with rear mufflers that may crack over time potentially leading to the separation of the muffler from the exhaust pipe.

“If the defect occurs, the exhaust tailpipe may become detached and pose a hazard to other road users,” the recall notice says.

Porsche Australia's Paul Ellis told CarAdvice repairs will involve the replacement of both mufflers – expected to take one and a half hours to complete – and that there have been no reports of any tailpipes detaching or any injuries associated with the recall.

The local recall is part of a global action that saw 2263 rear-wheel-drive Porsche 911 Carrera and all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 models manufactured between March 7, 2012 and November 12, 2012 recalled in the US earlier this year.

At the time, Porsche Australia told CarAdvice it was awaiting more information on the recall from its headquarters in Germany.
