Mercedes-Benz S-Class exterior image leaked

The first official exterior image of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been inadvertently revealed on the manufacturer's Austrian website.

The image – accidently uploaded overnight and subsequently removed by Mercedes-Benz – gives us an entirely unhindered look at the front-end of the sixth-generation luxury flagship ahead of its official unveiling on May 15.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class in the image is the same car as the one captured by CarAdvice’s spy photographers in March, sharing its rego plates, as well as its prominent grille, dark-tinted headlights, aggressive front bumper and 14-spoke alloy wheels that suggest it is a sporting variant of the upcoming range.

The official exterior image comes around six weeks after Mercedes-Benz released a gallery highlighting some of the key design elements of the new model’s cabin.

The next-generation S-Class range will grow to include the two-door S-Class Coupe and the super-luxurious Pullman, as well as an ultra-efficient plug-in hybrid variant.

The German brand’s flagship model will showcase a host of new safety features and other technologies, including an evolution of its PreSafe collision avoidance technology with 26 sensors and cameras and 360-degree vision capability, adaptive cruise control with steering assistance at speeds between 0-200km/h, world-first bulb-less LED headlamps and an equally innovative underbody ‘braking’ airbag.

The covers will come off the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class at a special event in Hamburg, Germany, on May 15.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is set to reach Australian showrooms around the end of 2013, following its mid-year European launch.
