2009 Fiat 500C official images leaked

February 16, 2009 by George Skentzos

Confirming what earlier spy shots had already revealed, the first official images of the new Fiat 500C convertible have been leaked onto the web.

As expected, the 500C is not your typical convertible, instead using a sliding canvas roof which is opened electronically and stored in plain sight.

This design is both cost effective and functional, allowing the 500C to maintain its distinctive retro styling which has made it such a hit here and especially overseas.

The cloth roof is reportedly available in three distinct colours – ivory, red and black – and includes an integrated spoiler which also houses a third brake light.

The current engine range will be incorporated into the new 500C line-up along with the 1.3-litre Multijet equipped with Stop-Start technology.

    Such a cute car.

And when I drove one, all I got were great looks from the opposite sex.

  2. Alex says:

I like that. It keeps true to form with the new 500. Cheap and cheerful.
I don’t have a problem with men driving the hatch but this one really is one for the girls. I love the wheels, hope they are soon available on the hatch.

  3. Myke says:

^I dunno about it being “cheap”. Fiats seem too expensive in Oz.

With the roof down, rear visibility doesn’t look great.

  4. Alex says:

Actually Myke, you are right. The 500 is way too expensive in Australia. I don’t know what they were thinking, not when you can get a better equipped more powerful Punto for less. But in the UK it is cheap. I would imagine you could get one of these for about 10,000 pounds when it comes out.

  5. TDi says:

I agree with Myke The roof down, it doesn’t look nice at all..

  6. Mitchell Oke says:

It’s not reeeeeeally a convertible, it’s just got a massive canvas sunroof.

Hollandia make a similar product: http://www.sunroofcentre.com.a.....dae422e876

  7. SteveC says:

hahah, FIAT was my spam word.

Seriously though. I drove one of these around Sydney for a week and I had every girl looking at me. Maybe the car, but a few smiled while sitting in peak hour.

The car was comfy and fantastic to cruise around it. The Abarth version would no doubt be a cooker. But the standard models are brilliant city cars with enough guts and glory to take it out on a highway at decent speeds.

I think it’s quaint that I can reach back and touch the rear window while reverse parking.

Expensive or not, they’re aiming it at the BMW Mini market, so the price seems spot on.

In saying that, I just watched the 5th Gear episode that came out a couple of days ago with Vicky Butler Henderson testing out the Alfa MiTo. I can’t wait to test that thing out and compare it to my car (Punto).

  8. Tentacles says:

SteveC, what sort of Punto do you have? Upgraded my Punto to a 500 last year, i think i miss the Punto though….
Saw that 5th gear episode too, not a huge fan of the MiTo styling, would prefer something like the VW Scirocco if they bought it here despite the higher price.
