Icona Vulcano: 708kW hybrid supercar ignites Shanghai auto show

The Icona Vulcano has made a fiery debut at the Shanghai auto show.

The Vulcano supercar teams aggressive Italian design with high-performance hybrid powertrain technology developed by former Ferrari technical director Claudio Lombardi.

Despite being a one-off, Icona has detailed two petrol-electric powertrains for the front-engined Vulcano.

The first, called ‘H-Turismo’, pairs a 6.0-litre V12 with a 119kW electric motor for a total output of 708kW, all of which is channelled to the rear wheels. In this spec, Icona says its two-door two-seat supercar will launch from 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds, 0-200km/h in under 10 seconds and power on to a top speed of 350km/h.

The second powertrain, called ‘H-Competizione’, mates a twin-turbocharged V6 with a pair of electric motors for a combined output of 649kW. All-wheel drive helps launch the less-powerful Vulcano to triple figures in 3.0 seconds.

Icona describes the Vulcano’s design as a “consistent theme of dynamic triangles set in horizontal symmetry, reminiscent of the Icona logo”, with “tight lines compliment[ing] the voluptuous shape, enhancing the car’s sensual power”.
