Cité de l’Automobile museum tour

During our recent trip to France for the launch of the Peugeot 208 GTi and Peugeot 2008 SUV, we had a few hours spare to visit the ‘Cité de l’Automobile, Musée national de l’automobile, Collection Schlumpf’ in Mulhouse.

The museum is one of the largest of its kind and home to over 520 vehicles, with the majority displayed in chronological order. It’s also the world’s largest collection of Bugatti motor vehicles in the world, with a Veyron on permanent display.

The story of the Museum is in itself a good tale, starting with the obsession of two Swiss brothers who bought the absolute best examples of Bugatti and other vehicles to form a car collection that remained a secret until their empire collapsed. You can find out more about the story of the collection here.

The Cité de l’Automobile museum is an absolute must for any car lover, even if you don’t have a passion for classic cars. The scale of the collection and the ability to visually see the progression of car design through the ages is a remarkable sight.

We have taken almost 400 photos in the short time we had at the museum, you can view them by clicking the photo tab at the top or by clicking here.
