Chery Beta 5: compact SUV concept teased

The first official images of the Chery Beta 5 concept have been released ahead of its debut at this week's Shanghai auto show.

Reportedly based on the same underpinnings as the Chinese manufacturer's Tiggo 5 SUV, UK magazine Autocar says the Chery Beta 5 will introduce more luxurious and contemporary styling to the line-up when it enters production in 2015.

The Beta 5 concept boasts stylised LED headlights and daytime running lights, an assertive grille and front bumper, bold wheel arches with plastic flares and large grey alloys.

The Beta 5 will reportedly be offered with two petrol engines: a naturally aspirated 97kW 2.0-litre and a supercharged 112kW 1.6-litre unit.

More details of the Chery Beta 5 concept will be revealed when it is unveiled in Shanghai on April 20.

Chery Motors currently sells one SUV in Australia, the Chery J11, which is the cheapest SUV on the market at $17,990 driveaway.
