Porsche 911 RSR - 7

Porsche has released a video of the brand new Porsche 911 RSR as part of its 50 years of the 911 celebrations.

The new Porsche 911 RSR, powered by a 338kW 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine tied to a lightweight six-speed paddle-shifted racing transmission, will compete in the 2013 World Endurance Championship series, which includes the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans in France.

Based on the seventh-generation Porsche 991 911, the new 911 RSR employs many carbonfibre parts including the bonnet and boot, doors, underbody, wheel arches, rear wing, front and rear mudguards, dashboard, and centre console, while all windows are made of lightweight polycarbonate. Also aiding weight reduction is the use of a lithium-ion battery borrowed the 911 GT3 road car.

With a look dominated by a low stance, wide guards and a deep central air intake at the front, the Porsche 911 RSR’s 2013 racing livery marks the German manufacturer’s historic milestone with the numbers 50 and 911 visible from a bird’s eye perspective.

The next round of the endurance racing series is the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on May 4.
