Volvo S60 Polestar performance concept

A video teaser suggesting the Volvo S60 Polestar performance concept is coming to Australian showrooms has been released.

Unlike the Volvo S60 T6 currently offered locally, which gets an optional Polestar tuning kit to produce 242kW and 480Nm from its 3.0-litre turbo six-cylinder, the S60 Polestar performance concept makes a full 378kW of power and 575Nm of torque from a heavily modified version of the same engine. Teamed with a six-speed manual transmission, it claims 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of over 300km/h.

Released by its maker, Polestar Racing, the footage shows what appears to be the four-wheel-drive Volvo S60 Polestar performance concept sliding through a snowy corner accompanied by text reading, “Limited Edition. Soon in Australia.” It is believed, however, that the production version being introduced here will offer performance figures somewhere between the current S60 Polestar and this S60 Polestar performance concept, so expect around 300kW, 520Nm and a sub-five second 0-100km/h.

While pricing and on-sale dates are yet to be mentioned, Volvo UK managing director Nick Connor last year said that if a production model were to be made based on this S60 Polestar performance concept, it would be in very limited numbers and would command a price of over £100,000 ($146,000) – making it roughly twice as expensive as the BMW M3 coupe in the UK.

Given the BMW M3 coupe is priced from $155,000 in Australia a straight-up production version of the S60 Polestar would be priced out of contention in the market, which is why Volvo has hinted that a more ‘moderate’ version of this concept will arrive in Australia – but also one more fiery than the current S60 Polestar model.
