Peugeot returns to Pikes Peak with 208 T16, Sebastien Loeb

A Peugeot 208 T16 with rally legend Sebastien Loeb at the helm will mark the brand's return to the famous Pikes Peak Hill Climb in the US in June.

With victories in 1988 and 1989 – the former with a Peugeot 405 T16 that starred in the iconic film ‘Climb Dance’ – Peugeot has decided to contest the 2013 Pikes Peak Hill Climb event in Colorado Springs with a Peugeot 208 T16 and nine-time World Rally Champion, Sebastien Loeb.

Tackling the hill climb’s 156 turns and 20km for the first time in his career, Loeb will experience Pikes Peak’s notorious altitude change from 2800m to 4300m. Having been entirely asphalted last year, though, the course’s former challenges of gravel and dust are no longer an issue.

The French rally ace – who won consecutive WRC titles with Citroen from 2004 to 2012 – was only able to accept Peugeot’s offer to drive the 208 T16 in the US event after Citroen authorised the move.

The Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak has been entered into the ‘Unlimited’ class with the appropriate start number of #208, and is due to be revealed in the middle of April ahead of the event on June 30.

New Zealand-born Rhys Millen set a new all-time world record up the mountain last year with a time of 9:46.164 in his Hyundai Genesis Coupe-based racecar.
