Porsche 911 Targa spied in Sweden
The new Porsche 911 Targa has been spied again, this time winter testing its central-removeable roof in the snow of Sweden.
First spotted back in June 2012, the Porsche 911 Targa, with its centre roof section, central rollbar and uniquely shaped rear window, has been lightly disguised to appear as a 911 Convertible.
As in the previously snapped test car, Porsche has again covered up the reflective red stripe between the tail-lights, which indicates the prototype is based on an all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 variant.
It’s still not known if the 991 911 Targa will be exclusively available as an all-wheel-drive model, following the 997 generation’s Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S versions, or if a rear-wheel-drive layout will be a part of the line-up.
Fans of the pre-993-style Targa top should expect the new car to debut later in 2013 with the Targa and Targa S models likely to be powered by the Carrera and Carrera S powerplants – a 257kW/390Nm 3.4-litre six-cylinder and 294kW/440Nm 3.8-litre six-cylinder, respectively.
The original 1965 Porsche 911 Targa roof design was altered when the 964 was replaced by the 993, with the past two 911 generations, the 996 and 997, both receiving criticism for their lack of the iconic rollover hoop.
