Whats wrong?:  The possibility that the lower steering column is not correctly flared where it is fixed to the steering column upper universal joint.

    I purchased a new Grand Punto in 2006. The steering rack was faulty from new and it took me six months before they changed this. I took it in for its first MOT last week and it failed on three tyres. These are the second set and its done 30,000 only.
    When they changed the steering rack the set all wheels up from scratch. The car is rubbish and I would never buy another Fiat. The dealers are very bad and I really do not have a good word to say about any I know or the car. This recall is a big issue but one of many problems with these cars.

    I BOUGHT A FIAT 1.4 PETROL PUNTO 2006, IT HAD TO GO BACK TO WORKSHOP 3 TIMES FOR A NEW STEERING RACK AS IT WAS FAULTY FROM THE START. MY CAR HAS HAD ONLY MYSELF AS OWNER, AND RECENTLY I,VE FELT SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE STEERING.YESTERDAY I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM & AFTER CHECKING I,M TOLD IT NEEDS A WHOLE NEW POWER STEERING UNIT, COSTING A TOTAL OF 993EUROS. NEEDLESS TO SAY I,M SHOCKED. COULD YOU PLEASE ADVISE. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN FUENGIROLA SPAIN. THANK YOU, MRS L RAE

      I’VE GOT A 1.2 GRANDE PUNTO 2006 – THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO MINE – NEED NEW STEERING COLUMN COSTING £850. CAR ONLY DONE 20,500 MILES. CONTACTED FIAT CUSTOMER CARE AS ADVISED BY DEALER – APARENTLY THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE. HOWEVER, FIAT CUSTOMER CARE COMMENTED THAT BECAUSE I HAD NOT HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED BY A FIAT DEALER (ALBEIT THAT IS HAS FULL SERVICE HISTORY) I HAD NOT BEEN LOYAL TO THE BRAND SO WHY SHOULD THE BRAND BE LOYAL TO ME – AMAZING. WHAT HAS SERVICING GOT TO DO WITH THE STEERING COLUMN!!! THEY DID OPEN A CASE BUT THE ADVISOR SAID SHE DIDN’T THINK I STOOD ANY CHANCE OF GETTING FIAT TO CONTRIBUTE AS A GESTURE OF GOODWILL – STILL WAITING FOR THEM TO GET BACK TO ME.
