Rego on my V8 will increase by $94/annum in Qld....

It already is user pays:-
More to buy it
More tax on the purchase
Higher rego & insurance
More revenue from the higher amount of fuel it uses

I can\'t ever remember a time in Qld when it cost the same to rego a V8 Vs 6 Vs 4

That said, I think tax breaks for electric cars are a good thing, & we should do it in Australia.

Simon,
the aussie government already does that.

last year stamp duty went up on pretty much everything that wasnt a hybrid.
rego is dearer for a 6 and 8cyl, always has been, and the gap just got bigger with recent rego increases.

Its always been a user pays system.
V8 owners get slugged more for rego and tax. Its already happening, and has been for a while

if you have been saying that for years, then perhaps you got your idea from what has been happening for years

"the federal government approved a $7,500 tax incentive for consumers of plug-in electric vehicles"

What I have been saying for years! Why can't the aussie government do the same thing? You want a V8? No probs, you pay full tax & rego. You'd like a fuel efficient diesel or hybrid? No tax and cheap rego.

Anti-spam word "toyota" :-)

At last someone is planning ahead thoughtfully. The "Better Place" model is flawed.
If we have standard infrastructure, adoption will happen more quickly & easily.
