Holden VF Commodore base model caught undisguised

The entry-level version of the new Holden VF Commodore has been caught undisguised by an eagle-eyed member of the CarAdvice team.

Holden has so far revealed only the luxury Calais and sporty SS versions of its new Commodore as part of a drip-feed campaign, but our photos taken on Sydney's North Shore confirm the look of the new base model that may retain the Omega badge.

Holden is referring to the car pictured only as "the entry-level car" for now, while the local car maker will drop the older 'Berlina' name as it pares the number of Commodore variants offered.

The Chrome-bordered grille of the base Holden VF Commodore contributes to a plainer design compared with the Calais and SS front ends and gives the 'Omega' a striking resemblance to the Cruze small car that's also built locally

The spied model shows alloy wheels are again set for the entry Commodore, though the car is set to include more features than the outgoing Omega as Holden aims to move the large car away from its heavy focus on fleet sales and to find more private buyers.

Holden said at the first design reveal of the new Commodore that the base model "would be a class above", with a more premium execution for the interior. The interior of the car we spotted, which was parked along with wagon and sedan versions of the new Calais, was covered up.

The new Holden VF Commodore goes on sale in early June with sedan, ute and wagon body styles again. Holden has confirmed a next-generation Commodore will be built locally from 2017, though how much Australian influence will go into the replacement remains unclear as it moves to a new global platform.
