Porsche Cayenne GTS V8 Supercars medical car revealed

The medical car for this year's V8 Supercars Championship – a new Porsche Cayenne GTS – will double as a rolling tribute to the motorsport success of the iconic Porsche 911, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2013.

The unique Porsche Cayenne GTS is plastered with heritage posters of the 911’s racing successes in the 1960s and 1970s, highlighting its feats in the snow at Rallye Monte Carlo, around the twists and turns of Targa Floria, and exuding speed and reliability during the Daytona 24 Hour.

Porsche Cars Australia managing director Michael Winkler said the skinning of the Cayenne GTS medical car for the 2013 V8 Supercars series was just one of the German manufacturer’s plans to celebrate the half-century history of the 911 – a car that has delivered the company more motorsport success than any other.

The Cayenne GTS will transport the chief medical officer, medical staff and their equipment at all V8 Supercars and Porsche Carrera Cup events as the first response vehicle to serious on-track crashes.

The brightly coloured 309kW/515Nm 4.8-litre V8-powered Cayenne GTS replaces the Porsche Panamera 4S that served as the medical car between 2010 and 2012, and before that the Cayenne S in 2008 and 2009.

The Porsche Cayenne GTS medical car will make its debut at the opening round of the V8 Supercars and Carrera Cup at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide from February 28 to March 3.
