Audi TT RS Plus: second-generation coupe signs off in style

The Audi TT RS Plus, the company’s second-fastest production car, has landed in Australia.

It trails only to Audi’s R8 supercar in the acceleration stakes, making the TT RS Plus a fitting send-off for the famous coupe before its replaced by a new-generation model that’s expected in 2014.

The Plus in the Audi TT RS Plus name brings more power and performance to the flagship TT, and costs just $500 more than the TT RS it replaces - $139,900.

With 265kW of power (up 15kW) and 463Nm of torque (up 15Nm) from its 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder, the all-wheel-drive TT RS Plus clocks 4.1 seconds in the 0-100km/h sprint and can reach 280km/h.

The engine is again linked with a seven-speed dual-clutch auto, with fuel consumption rated at 8.5 litres per 100km.

The Audi TT RS Plus sits on 19-inch wheels wrapped in 255/35 tyres, and includes a magnetic damper system that can stiffen the suspension for more dynamic driving at the touch of a button.

The RS version of the two-plus-two seater coupe also features exhaust flaps to enhance the car’s sporty soundtrack.

Audi Australia is calling 2013 its “year of performance” owing to an influx of sporty models.

Audi once sold only one RS model at a time, but this year the Audi TT RS Plus is joined by the Audi RS4 Avant that has launched at the time, an updated R8 arrives in March, the Audi RS5 Cabriolet is here in the third quarter, and the Audi RS6 Avant lands in the fourth quarter. The recently unveiled Audi S3 Sportback should also sneak in before year’s end.
