I saw one at Chittaway Point Shopping Centre on the Central Coast of NSW on the Aust Day long weekend, parked right next to me! Was going to ask the driver but I was with other people.

It's hardly a debut if it's already been seen at AIMS, is sitting in the front window of Hyundai head office and if there's one running around for personal erands...

Unlike most I guess, I maybe the only voice of discontentment. For me the most eye-catching design feature about the i30 was the tail section lines. That’s what made it look European to me. That tail section made you stand up and pay attention and ask yourself as one drove by.......was that a (plane was it a bird, was it a....... sorry wrong story ) a BMW or a Golf? No it was a Hyundai i30!
The aft section has been totally reworked and the charm that captured me has now vanquished into the sea of mediocrity.
Crouchy, I personally think you are both agree and disagree with your comments. I agree with the comment about the Volvo'esque/Volovoish tail lights. Unfortunately I don’t think its just the tail lights that have changed. The rear window shape has been lost which had a sort of sport-back sleek speedy look. If you compare pictures side by side you will see the hatch rear window has a slight V-shape wrap to it and a very distinct continual belt line joining from the sides. That rear belt-line has been lost giving it a completely new rear look. Diluting one of the sharpest and for me the best visual design features of the rear, I’m not so sure it is a good thing.
I disagreed with your comment “a long way from the Hyundai Lantra wagon” I’m not too sure. It looks very similar to me.
Anyway, I will have to wait until release date to see one in person before making my final decision. Hatch or Wagon......?

Like most of the comments here, I agree this new wagon looks better than the hatch version but regardless, Hyundai are on a winner with their i30 models. This new wagon should sell well & hopefully one day I might be in the market to buy one.

Cheers !

Snowman you are right. But so far I haven't been able to justify spending 28k on one especially when my budget only really wants to stretch to about 20k. Once the Jazz (and the soon to be realeased City) are available with electronic stability control I will reassess the situation and look again at the contenders. I'm waiting for a look at the new Kia soul too! I think its another year in my old Corolla unfortunately.

I really wanted this to come out last year when I bought my i30 hatch, as I could have used the slightly extra space, but I happily settled on the hatch in the end.
To Sam though, you can get an i30 diesel for much less than $30K if you shop around. I got a manual SX crdi, but that was only $24.5K drive away, and auto usually only adds a couple of grand more. To be fair, I can see the wagon costing $1K to $1.5K more than the hatch, but there isnt a huge amount of extra sheetmetal in it, so theres no reason you shouldnt be able to get away with one on road for under $28K or so with luck, especially with todays market!

I'd like to look at a diesel auto version of this car but if the regular i30 is anything to go on with price, I will be lucky if i can get one on the road for less than 30k. Which is too much. I can get a Rav 4 for that.(ok 30,990) However, with the World Financial Crisis biting down hard on car companies, perhaps Hyundai will take a more aggressive pricing approach to this car.
