The Audi A6 3.0 TDI Biturbo has arrived in Australia to become the country’s fastest diesel-powered vehicle.

Audi’s latest A6 sedan variant employs a twin-turbo V6 diesel with 230kW of power and 650Nm of torque to race from standstill to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds.

That speed places the Audi A6 Biturbo diesel ahead of the BMW X6 M50d and the upcoming Audi SQ5 SUVs, and its twin Audi A7 3.0 TDI Biturbo that all complete the benchmark sprint in 5.3 seconds.

It’s the quickest model in the A6 range, four-tenths ahead of the supercharged V6 petrol 3.0 TFSI, while a $118,800 price tag also confirms its position as the flagship of the regular A6 range that comprises six variants not including the S6 and forthcoming RS6.

The addition of the 3.0 TDI Biturbo means petrol and diesel offerings are evenly split, though the latter account for 58 per cent of Audi A6 sales in Australia.

Standard features for the twin-turbo Audi A6 3.0 TDI include 18-inch alloy wheels, Audi Drive Select, parking sensors and rear view camera, Bose surround sound audio system, Bluetooth with streaming, sunroof, navigation, xenon headlights and Milano leather seats.

The Audi A7 3.0 TDI Biturbo costs from $148,600 and its equipment highlights different to its sedan sibling are 19-inch alloy wheels, four-zone climate control, automatic tailgate, Valcona leather upholstery, and a front as well as rear view camera.

Both models are the first A6 models to use a ZF eight-speed automatic that is better suited to the Biturbo’s torque output than the seven-speed dual-clutch unit found in other V6 variants.

The Audi A6 3.0 TDI Biturbo competes directly with the $121,500 BMW 535d, $115,500 Jaguar XF 3.0D and $136,485 Mercedes-Benz E350 CDI.

I wish my truck had that much torque!

  • Zaccy16

fantastic diesel engine! makes the petrol a harder choice to make because the diesel uses less fuel but is as fast and torquier! should make a s4 diesel with this engine! call it the sd4 and its sold

Is an A7 really worth an extra 30 grand over an A6? Isn’t just an a6 in a tuxedo?

    • Fgjh

A7 is just a liftback/hatchback/coupe/fastback whatever you want to call it rear end. You can get the same shape in other cars, but they don’t charge you extra (Mondeo/Mazda6 etc).

I might be a great car, with a great engine, but it sure looks boring for the money you pay for it. Give me the Jag XF any day. If I’m paying over $100K for a car I want it to look like it’s a $100K car.

    $30k overpriced.
    Dozey styling and beyond Teutonic.

    Audi haters. Take aim.

      Fire!

Boringly excellent, albeit very very expensive compared to if Holden or Ford dropped a high performance diesel in their forthcoming saloons.

    • Darryl

Waste of time comparing it to something purely hypothetical.
