            What I stated earlier about the $1.00 Chinese LCD was all true. And I can post up negative things about Audi, MB, BMW & VEEDUD all I want.

            Driving the 2013 3 series the interior qualty is a joke.. But I’m more than happy for people to blindly spend their hard earned dollars on such rubbish.

            HA, I’d much rather buy a BMW or  that a Hyundai. People who buy the A6 Biturbo tdi buy it because they can easily can afford one AND have change over to buy suede. 

            So stick to your Hyundai i20 as it’s the only thing you can afford and go read your toyota & hyundai brochures and drabble on about how great they are. Really I’d love to see how “Hyundai is set on a quest to capture the hearts of the world!” (your words not mine). HAHAHAHA that’s so warm and fuzzy it’s disgusting.Better yet, go spend a night with Hyundais chief engineer ! :)He might show you his “technical secrets” :). Just remember to wash up F1orce so we can hear your useless piffle about how wonderful hyundai is. :)

    So with all the comments about the new VF Crummer being world class, can we expect the new VF to match this Audi’s 6.4L100km economy along with 0-100kmh in 5.1 secs?

      No. When something like this comes along and amazes us, it brings the need for a Commodore engine upgrade into stark focus. The world’s changing fast and naturally aspirated V6s are so 2010. Holden wants to compete with low end A4, low end E Class, C Class, 3 and 5 series, Passat, 508, Camry Hybrid and the like without the one engine option that these buyers would truly take notice of.

          Yes, but I’m pretty sure that Holden would have loved to have sold a Calais to everyone who bought a C Class, 3 series, A4 or Passat (the main culprits) in the last 3 or 4 years. Isn’t that where their problem lies, in part?

          Of course it will here. it would be truly awful for GMH if that wasn’t the case. The Commodore will be out sold by all the others globally. The Golf outsells anything else in Germany by at least 2 to 1, which in the context of the Australian market, doesn’t mean much either.

          You’re probably right on this one, but I still find this a bit premature, given nobody from the public has seen the VF in person. In the mean time, somebody should put up a side by side comparison of VF vs Audi, BMW etc interiors to debunk whether its a valid comparison or not.
          IMO, its down to feel . I drove an Audi Q5 3.0TDI recently, and found myself switching the lights on and off because the switch felt so nice, as if they’d put countless hours into it. What a shame I couldn’t explore its capabilities, as it went into limp mode straight away…

      It’s silly to compare a 50k VF to a 120k Audi and then say the means the VF isn’t good. This A6 is a POS compared to a Rolls, but it’s still a great car. 
      Holden could make a car every bit as good IF they were charging 90+k for it, but there’s hardly any market here for Holden to make such a vehicle. So they make cars in the volume bracket 20-60k.

        I very much doubt Holden could make a car as good as the A6.
        They simply don’t have the resources, cash or expertise.
        They can raid the GM parts bin and then tweak a few things but that’s about it.

         So the definition of “World Class” is variable depending on the price now?

        $9900 drive away for that Chinese car – nothing comes close for price, so does that mean it’s world class? Could anyone else make a car as good as that and sell it at reasonable profit for $9900 drive away?

        Also, what does a Rolls Royce do better than a Audi A6? Comfort I suppose. Handling, efficiency, parking definitely not – and this is the BMW Rolls’. The last “true” Rolls Royce was in 1998, offering just 183KW from a gigantic 6.75L V8 with atrocious economy, only had 4 speeds and only two airbags. ten years earlier it wasn’t even fuel injected and didn’t have ABS let alone any airbags. They were decades behind the German brands.

        Holden would have to charge 90K if they weren’t subsidized by the Australian taxpayer.
        Without the subsidy Holden buyers would then have to pay LCT.
        Holdens are cheaper because the government likes to project local jobs and in the process make inferior cars cheaper for the local market

          If you did a little research you’d know that the German manufacturers are more protected than the local industry. The import duty here is 5%, but 10% in Germany,  ignorance is bliss. The German government provided 500 million Euros in support for electric vehicle battery research alone. Even that pales in comparison to what the Americans and the Chinese are subsidising their automotive industries with. The difference is that those countries are smart enough to realise the importance and significance of having an automotive industry. Yet somehow in Australia there is this uneducated opinion that the local industry is heavily protected, while companies OS are perfect examples of competitive capitalism at work, a little research shows otherwise. Also local cars over the LCT threshold pay LCT, they always have.

      no way the crummer is in the stone age compared to this, this is a fantastic diesel engine and makes it a harder choice to choose the tfsi petrol

        Funnily enough, after having Jags for the past 5 years, when I get into a car without leather over the dash it always looks plasticky to me.  Just what you get used to, I suppose.  But I can never understand why reviewers say that audi interiors are so good anyway.  I’d have put them a distant fourth behind Jag, MB, and BMW, coz they tend to be quite dated.

          I haven’t got a chance to sit in a Jag but to my experience the Audi interior is better than MB and BMW. MB and BMW’s interior looks good in the picture or from a distance but when you sit in, Audi’s finish is much better.

            hmmm, I suppose my beef with the Audi is that usually (and the pics above look better) they are usually just all black and boring.  I’m talking about the dash etc more than the seats.  And plasticky.  A friend bought the RS5 last year, which was one of the most awesome cars I’ve seen from the outside, but the inside was like stepping back 10 years.  And an associate has the A5 which is about 3 years old, but you’d think it was 15 years old on the inside.  But I’ve had Volvos for years which actually have very nice interiors, with good leather etc, and now with Jags which (in the portfolio standard) have really nice interiors, I have been spoiled.  But I’ve seen some people complain about the Jag interiors, so horses for courses

    Sadly this engine won’t be available in the Allroad or an Avant.
    Anyone wanting a fast wagon will have to wait for the RS6 which will be a monster.
    Just the trick for viewing all FPV and HSV bogans in the rear view mirror!

    Nice, but is it really necessary to lug the extra weight around with the fulltime 4WD?
    It would be quicker with just 2WD

      Sadly it would be a FWD if it were 2WD. 650NM and 230kW is way too much for a bum dragger.

      AWD is definitely going to make for a better launch than 2WD, because that huge torque figure starts so low in the rev range. The only real benefit of removing the AWD would be slightly better fuel economy. I think that’s a worthy compromise for quicker acceleration and better wet weather handling.

    The “Price Comparison” argument is only truly understood by a person who has purchased a European car, the A6 Audi would be price comparable with a decent Commodore or Falcon dips not for import duties and LCT. My BMW X6M started at around $120K + LCT + Duties + GST = $189K. Australian buyers a being screwed in the name of propping up our car “assemblers”. Also the quality question, my experience having owned a Clubsport, a GT Falcon, a VW Touareg V10 twin turbo and currently a BMW X6M is that the Aussie performance cars are clapped out and falling apart at 120,000K’s and the Euro’s are good for twice the kilometers. A BMW M3 is under $70K in the US, why is it $160K in Australia ?

    Dunno about Euros being good for high km.  I got my wife a VW Golf TDi, she does long commutes and I thought a diesel Golf would be good for high mileage.  At 150,000 km the tappet cover leaked, $600 (mostly to get at it), at 175,000 some of the emission hardware had a “hard fault”, over $2000 of which VW paid 30%, and while that was being fixed they had to replace an EGR valve, $300.  And THEN they said the dual-mass flywheel was starting to rattle and would need replacement, maybe $1000?  I sold the Golf, bought for nearly $40,000 in 2006, sold in 2012 for $10,000 and I was happy to get that for it.  Rubbish. Have had three Commodores, all did over 200k no problems, had a BMW 3.0S years ago, cost me a fortune.  No more Euro cars for me.  Wife’s got a Hyundai i30 now, loves it despite the hard ride.  And it has 5 year unlimited km warranty.  I reckon the old mechanic’s rule of thumb about getting rid of any Euro car at 100k still stands.  The VW Golf service book only goes up to 100k, that must say something.
