As a Toyota man…LOL, that’s the bottom of the pile mate, of course anything would raise your eyebrow !
That’s a great car overall, but I can only assume it’s not in the same class as Merc, Audi or BMW. A good VW Passat or VW Phaeton competitoor me thinks !
huwtm
There are a lot of GM stooges commenting
Saborna
No fan of GM cars and dont like this new model. Interior layout look hideous. GM have never ever since 1948 produced a decently finished car. Holden fans and fleet operators may love it , but not for me. Had one as company car and it was traded it after nine months due to too many ongoing problems - as was the rest of the fleet.
They are domestic/ general fleet cars. I have owned a Vauxhall Astra (UK) as dull and boring the car was it was one great workhorse.
Shak
All in all, as a whole package the new interior combined with all that new standard tech really has lifted the game for large cars and Holden as a whole.
Assman
Lifted the game for Holden. That’s it. Still at the bottom of class.
Zaccy16
Design is a huge improvement but still low quality, how hard can it be to use quality plastics? vw can do it in the polo which is half the price of this!
Shak
How can you tell? That is a journos impression. Get in one yourself and then judge.
I think Zaccy is correct. You don’t need to sit in a car to inspect the quality of the plastics, this can be often visible with experience. Whilst there are some cheap interior plastics, overall it seems on the good side to me !
This is a good VW Phaeton or VW Passat competitor but would not touch the E-class, 5er or A6 !
Declan parents probably come from Ireland.Unlike yourself Assman,Declan has made some excellent comments on the VF Commodore in the last few days.
Darryl
What’s yours? I assume that’s your nickname not your real name.
Captain Nemo®™
Zuppy the Polio has some of the cheapest and nastiest plastics in the world. And as others have said when did you sit in the new VF?
Zaccy16
you must have never been inside a polo because the interior quality as said by all motoring journos is best in class, rear brussed aluminium, whole dash board made out of one peace of soft touch plastic etc…
Captain Nemo®™
Had a few loan Polios all made of cheap nasty African plastic. Don’t believe everything journos say, Polio is still a nasty POS.
Ghj
How come you never bring this up with the journos in the articles that about Polo that say the plastics are good? In fact, I rarely if ever, see you commenting on any article, rather you lower yourself into pointless personal slurs against Zaccy.
Zaccy16
Exactly! Captain doesn’t believe every motoring journo that has ever drove the polo! It was wheels car of the year, drive car of the year, world car of the year etc etc…
ZaccyexactlyIQ16
Exactly exactly exactly exactly!!!!!!
Captain Nemo®™
Gjh i comment because Zuppy is wrong 99% of the time with his comments. Anyone that drives a VeeDud has no right to bag any other make of car. Scrolling through his previous comments shows he is kind of obsessed with GMH particularly Commodores. And maybe Zuppy can tell us why when a journo heaps praise on a non VeeDud car he still feel the need to bag them with his uninformed comments.
Captain Nemo®™
Disagreeing with journos usually results in your comment being deleted especially on VeeDud stories so why bother.
Avirga
I’m a technician for vw the quality is up to s..t
Avirga
I work on euro car a lot there not as good and reliable as people think.Often have more problems than local built cars
huwtm
Interestingly even the Germans are noticing the drop in quality of VW and its affiliates. The German car show Drive It are pointing out the change a lot now when they test a VW.
New
and the servicing for VW is huuuuge $$$$
Pro346
Why bring up VW this is a Holden story:-)
Luke Brinsmead
Exactly
Force-15
Because it’s CarAdvice. People are always hell-bent on pointing out the superiority/inferiority of Volkswagens here.
Aussie and Proud
Excuse me so you have sat in the car ………. no ……………you are a tool
Why do you and your other tool mates always bag Aussie cars particularly Holden’s
Zaccy16
i actually haven’t been bagging the vf completely, if you read my previous comments i said it was an improvement over the rubbish ve but still not there yet
Zaccy16
Exactly!!!!!
Chad
you know what you remind me of is the average american….one of the latest JD Power studies stated the Americans perceived VW,s to be the best built cars in the States, then you turn to the study on actual reliability of, I think it was just over 40 cars brands, the VW came in at 35th I think it was. You are just a sucker to their good advertising campaign. their cars like so many other euro are no better than offerings from the rest of the world. Including the latest commodore
huwtm
That same reliability report gave GM a bad review as well. Speaking of falling for advertising campaigns – Holden have people snowed in this country too. People will believe just about anything that comes from GMH, with out question.
huwtm
I get your point Zaccy, it is a much better looking dash and centre console than the previous car, which was designed to match the Astra at the time, and now looks really ordinary.
JD
Wow stunning, and classy for a commodore.
Barry
If I didn’t know what car I was looking at.I would of said Mercedes or Bmw or Lexus.
CrappedInMyDoor
That’s going a bit far. Looks like a Nissan murano interior from 5-6 years back. No wow factor.
Golfmother
Stop choofing barry its only a crummerdore , miles behind lexus or euro interiors .
Damian
I find your comment to be rather distasteful, given that for Calais V money, you’d be lucky to get into a BMW 318i or Mercedes C180. Any Euro that is comparable to the Calais V in performance and size is priced north of $100k. It doesn’t take a huge amount of objectivity to see the Holden’s value equation.
Golfmother
You kidding , no mention of its economy in your story , and thats want people look at .
Its still overweight and too large , and the bogan image scares prestige buyers away .
Chad
their is nothing over weight about the new one, the current sv6 is lighter than the current BMW 535i and the new one is lighter again, to large? driving long distances or taller than 6′ they are perfect. As for to bogan image i think its just people beginning to think they are to good for australian cars, if china buys our resources, australians get a little wealthier and look what they turn into..Australians should wake up to them selves
huwtm
You don’t need a giant car to do those things such as comfortable long drives or if you are over six feet. BMW 5 series is very big, by the way.
But just a point to this argument that you and others have raised, So for urban travel you have a different car, and you bring out the Commodore or what ever every time you want to take a country drive? Not practical for most people.
Damian
If you want economy, buy a Prius. If you want a combination of practicality, power, dynamics and value for money, the Falcadores make a very compelling case for themselves.
The whole argument of ‘too large’ has no traction given that everyone’s needs are different. The BMW 5-series, Mercedes Benz E-Class and Audi A6 are pretty much on par with the Commodore in terms of size and weight. Nobody seems to complain about these vehicles being too big or heavy?
huwtm
OK Damien, they’re to big. But really the point is the Falcon and Commodore are volume cars, the cars you mention are elitist cars. V
Volume big car the sales are going down and the mid size cars the sales are going up. You don’t need to be genius to figure the pattern out. Now for the manufacturers to survive they have to answer the market.
By the way, SUVs are a furthy they have taken the place of station wagons for the most part.
Barry
Perhaps not to that level. But even you must acknowledge Golfmother the interior is a missive step up.At least semi premium, something like Vw.
huwtm
Come on Barry? That’s going a bit far!
Poison_Eagle
I am waiting to see it in person before drawing any conclusions. For example, with an Audi, one of the interior drawcard is the way the buttons feel when you press them. I hope Holden has mastered this. It looks good so far though.
Guest
Wow, I am actually surprised at how good the interior of this Commodore looks. I was expecting just a small tweak here and there, but a near-complete overhaul of the VE has just worked wonders.
huwtm
It’s got to last four years. We’re actually over due for replacement cars from both manufacturers.
http://twitter.com/NRD80Y NRD80Y
Electric handbrake!
Poison_Eagle
Looks like some great details in the interior, no panel gaps, good textures etc. One thing I like is the seat ventilation button under the vents, which I presume means seat cooling! If its just heating then fail, but I doubt it.
Sumpguard
This is very well styled sedan. The interior is very classy.
Well done Holden. If this is a prelude to the ALL new commodore in 2017 we are in for a pleasant surprise.
AJ
Heated seats as well…
Shak
Which is a first for the Commodore i believe. The Cruze has had them for a while though.
Andrew M
Yeah I was just thinking the other day when the skin peeled off my face when I got into the car that I need heated seats too
huwtm
yeah a real necessity on a 45 degree day.
Tony Abbotts No 1 fan
Does that logic also apply to cars having heaters?
Moron
New
Exactly. Great for QLD…. what about cooling seats like some of the other Euro brands?
Tony Abbotts No 1 fan
Obviously you have never used them in winter when it’s 0 or below, you wouldnt be so cynical then.
A moronic comment
huwtm
Yep 4 cylinder FWD rename of the Malibu or something like that.
nugsdad
This is now a world class car, it has always had it’s typical Australian
strengths and now with a level of sophistication. The interior is
fantastic.
Say what you like but why wouldn’t you buy this for $50k
sell it two years later for $25-$30 and get a new one. The Alternative
is go German, Starts at $90k option it up with wheels tyres and a radio,
pay $120k hang on to it for 4 years ( you got bored with it after 18
months) and trade it in then for $40k.
Calling this a bogan car is an
egotistical comment with no basis, but the german brands love it so you
pay twice as much for their offerings and get half the car.
Seriously
lets support Australia. When I go to Korea at least 90% of the cars on
their roads are Korean, lets show some national spirit.
12354wd
Surely you need more than some photos and comments from the designer for you to decide whether it’s world class or not?
By the way, German cars, as with all cars, do come standard with wheels, tyres and radio. It would be quite hard to sell a car without wheels and tyres.
huwtm
Yeah its a big parrot call that one. It’s at least the standard of the yanks. Which to be perfectly honest, isn’t saying much. If all goes according to the US web sites we’ll now be having a massive amount of recalls too.
nugsdad
sarcasm is the highest form of wit
Avirga
I am largely involved with new European cars and you couldn’t have said it better that’s exactly what happens
http://profiles.google.com/macca007 Shane Mc Grath
Wow, Not the usual Commodore look. As with most of them at first it takes a bit of getting used to when you see them, After a while then it sinks in and you love the look, This is the same.
Those tail lights are fresh, But I am sure it will look decent on the SS and above. Can’t wait to see what HSV can do with the clubby. May just be tempted to upgrade from my VY SS with all the new tech in this new car.
DAVIDZ
No folding back seat, FAIL
No bench 3 seater Ute, FAIL
No powertrain improvements, FAIL
Far too expensive, FAIL
But still better than say a i45 orphan
JD
DAVIDZ’s comment, WORTHLESS
You sound like a VW fanboi
Golfschwein
And he’s putting it everywhere.
Dansubs
He sounds like he is home from school.
Golfschwein
Got a pool? Go for a swim, or something.
Dansubs
Thats your fourth cut and paste of exactly the same (un)informed comments. You missed one story by the way on this site, much in the way you missed the point of posting an opinion is to be first informed and then express it. Clearly you are not as things such as powertrains, the prices and the utes details have not been revealed.
duh
Sportwagon gets foloing back seat if you want that
bench seats are from the 70′s and dont work with passenger airbags
they aren’t talking about powetrains yet
prices are still not released so how do u know its to expensive?
DAVIDZ
YOU BETTER INFORM FORD ABOUT THE FALCON 3 SEATER BENCH SEAT UTE WITH FULL FRONTAL AIRBAGS THEN……
Darryl
Writing in caps does not make you clever. I don’t see the Falcon ute at the top of the sales charts. You better snap one up then, before they go to ute heaven.
Captain Nemo®™
Well you can cross number 1 off your list Car point has more photos and there is clearly a folding back seat.
Byers
You are a teenage tool, F off !
Darryl
Shut up
Fairlane
Well done on the interior Holden looks classy
Still Aussie car haters will find something to winge about,I say stuff them.
Golfschwein
Well, this looks terrific inside and out. With as yet unannounced drivetrain improvements, it could put the Commodore back on the reckoning table for a lot of folks. It will me.
I was seriously considering picking one up in 2 years time, but now, I don’t think I can wait that long.
guest
I was dreading the re-style – but this is much better than I expected. It looks quite good and the interior is very classy. It has some nice gadgets too.
Mdaw4156
is there to be vf caprise
guest
Yes, it was spotted in one of the images released where they were modelling the VF “Sport” model which we now know as the SS. Only a small portion of it seen in the background, but it’s clearly the Caprice.
Gibwater
Where can I take lessons on how to operate the touchscreen whilst trying to drive at the same time? Cars are not offices. The controls need to be quick, and obvious. If not, they’re too distracting, and even possibly a hazard. However, the interior presents well, though the old console looks out of its depth.
F1orce
It looks great!
BeemerMan
Remember its only a parts bin of recycled parts from other models. Will rattle and fall to bits in no time. Good ‘ol, “she’ll be right mate”.
F1orce
But the interior looks of high quality..
Soft touch, well designed and executed.
SuperChar
I agree F1orce, I reckon is looks alright on the inside. Let’s hope it does live up to the expectations and quality is up there. I would hate to be a Holden salesperson in the next few months trying to flog off the old models though.
huwtm
He does have a a point!
Kieran
I was looking at replacing my VE wagon, in which I have had a number of near misses because of cars, cyclists and pedestrians obscured by the overly thick A-pillars.
However, the VF’s 4mm of the A-pillar trims is just not good enough.
To improve the appalling visibility, the Commodore needed higher strength steel in much slimmer A-pillars.
Guess I will be looking elsewhere for a vehicle I can actually see out of properly.
Shak
Or you know, you could’ve have maybe taken one for a drive before you bought one and noticed this.
Darryl
HQ? Slim A pillars there, just don’t roll it.
huwtm
The yanks have had big complaints about it too. Trouble is it’s a big car, something has to support it when it falls over. Maybe when they’ve re-badged the Cruze or Malibu to a commodore you’ll find it better.
Noely
I’m sorry but I wanna say I’ve seen this interior before, 2013 TOYOTA Crown which debutet at the end of 2012. and the head light also.
huwtm
true to
Poison_Eagle
Crown is a bit more adventurous in the styling department, groovy pink colour and all.
Tom
Ford will have to thoroughly re-work the whole exterior aesthetic, interior fitment and/or materials, for the nameplate to have any future hope of survival, much less prosperity – *and* as unfortunate a fact as it is. Because, under the skin, they’re mechanically brilliant and greatly superior to their blood enemies…
I’ve always preferred a more traditionalist philosophy to building cars… but Falcon is now decidedly provincial in some key respects.
When the VF hits the market in the next few months, I just hesitate to think of what might happen…!
Hung Low
Great improvement, it has definitely exceeded my expectations. The steering wheel looks great as ever but I do see an issue with the Nissan style controls under the display for user friendliness whilst driving, especially when dealing with apps etc. The Calais is a great representation of the Commodore and they need to thin out that cruddy Omega image.
Save It For The Track
Save the electronic park brake BS for the Calais. There should be a proper handbrake in the SS at least.
Elitist
Ive had friends who worked for these companies testing their parts to destruction and they tell me they always opt for the cheaper solution that is to last for 4 years and no more.
One of these friends now left and is working for pro drive.
Just let these cars die and lets have VW, Fiat, Peugeot etc setup here and give aussies jobs they can be proud of.
jekyl & hyde
you forget where you are (and maybe you need to go back there). how long to you think a dsg auto tranny lasts in a vw?
you real life alternative’s ( no proudness there) could be the likes of great wall, mahindra, chery, proton…
Elite
What are you saying your more Australian than me?
Funny how people are tough on the net.
Weegena
We all know that if bmw could just import at a straight exchange rate that they would be comparable in price to falcadores.any one with any sense of value would buy the safer car.
The design changes like electronic brakes are copied straight from the French.
The dash is copied from hyundai. The flowing design holden is so proud of is there to make it easier to build for right and left hand markets. The Koreans copied it from Mercedes.
Even if people don’t like this car or that brand because of whatever reason a sense of fair play dictates a live and let live attitude. This is Australia not tyrannical north Korea
Luke Brinsmead
Mmm…suede.

window switches where they belong finally!

With a few exceptions – virtually all the comments made in this, and other recent items, appear to be authored by school kids. The language and grammar being typical of those who seem to spend their day ‘glued’ to a mobile phone.
If you are indeed ‘grown-up’ guys, try to spend less time insulting each other (just like teenage girls do) and concentrate on offering a coherent opinion of your own and overlook anything anyone else might say. The adult subscribers would be interested in your views BUT we are not interested in having to cope with ‘slanging-matches’. So my request is grow-up and stick to the point.
For what it is worth, my opinion is thus – whether it be a pure-blooded GM, an Opel, a Vauxhall or a Holden this car is, as it should be, an evolved improvement of the current model. I hope it is successful for Australia’s sake and the folks who work at Holden.
Finally I would offer up a point for discussion viz.,there has been lots of ‘chuntering’ about abandoning larger engined cars in favour of 4 cylinder models; but I would like to see more manufacturers developing 2litre 6 cylinder engines. There are those of us who would be happy to economise by ‘downsizing’ but are reluctant to relinquish the smoothness of a multi-cylinder engine. Any views?
Golfmother
Waste of time 2 litre 6cyl , worse torque than the current V6 crummers , no turbo 4cyl is the way to go , tons of torks with economy ie eco boost .
Have driven my fair share of BMW sixes and i can tell you they are the masters and their 2 litre was creamy smooth , but gutless .
In this tank turbo 2.8l 6 or a 2litre turbo 4 .
GregR
Well GM its many years since I did any competitive driving but I guess that if you are choosing an engine for track use you will use different criteria to make a choice. In the main I drive open cars and, over the last three or four decades, the one which stands out for me was the 320ci of 2001 (it actually had a 2.2 capacity). Admittedly that was in the UK and I lived in rural Cornwall at the time, however the driving pleasure I derived from throwing that around the lanes has never been bettered by subsequent larger engined versions. Its all a matter of personal choice after all. My point was that I find 4pot engines ‘clunky’ and with the top down the sound of ’6′ is almost as good as my late 420SL. It’s always ‘horses for courses’. I had a Triumph Vitesse back in the sixties, which had a 2litre six and although not the most reliable car, even though new, it rattled a great deal but I valued it at the time. I had a 911 once and was told that Porsche were considering a small capacity flat six not sure if it ever materialised. Unlike some of the posters here I am not a technocrat just someone who likes cars. However although I may not know the technical specifications of a ‘bees-bum’ I know what cars and engines please me. Hey.Ho.
Golfmother
Pretty sure the 320i we had in oz in the 80′s was 1990cc , might be wrong , next up 2300cc .
After owning a 535i and a 735i it was certainly a lot different to drive a 320i , but silky smooth sounding .
The vitesse motor was it the TR6 motor ? , nice smooth job too .
Cheers
peddy.d
ok i don’t know why anyone hasn’t picked this up yet but one of the pictures in this article shows the interior of what looks to be the SS V (SS logo is printed on the top left side of the dashboard). And it looks like the actual car in grey is behind that designer smiling in the photo. Looks like VF SSV will be more understated with a rear lip spoiler, and the rear headlights are blacked out like the current series. Looks not bad IMO
