The annual Bathurst 12 Hour endurance race kicks off this Friday at the world famous Mount Panorama circuit in New South Wales, and the more than 50 entries from Australia and around the world are readying their racecars for the gruelling event.

With manufacturers such as Audi, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Lamborghini, and Peugeot all represented at this year’s race, steered by international drivers like ex-Formula One driver Mika Salo and five-time DTM Champion Bernd Schneider, and local drivers including three-time V8 Supercar Champion Craig Lowndes, Australian Touring Car legend John Bowe and V8 Supercar regulars Steven Richards, Warren Luff, Tim Slade, Lee Holdsworth and Jason Bright, this year’s race is guaranteed to deliver flag-to-flag excitement.

The camo paint job on the Ferrari looks kind of cool very different to what would usually be found on a ferrari

  • Simon Dale

People would care more about this race if they used cars most people can associate with. They should but a cap  cars at $AU100,000. Anything sold above this price does not qualify.

    • Got_rice

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion…..but in this case, your opinion is a load of saggy goat ballz.

    • Frostie

That’s what the 1000 used to be for. Back in the days of Group C, before the big bangers.

    • Pro346

They do have a race like that still…cant’ recall what its called.

    • James Cortez

Some of them are under 100 grand in the states / canada but just about everything in Austrailia is much more expensive. I guess suck it up.

    • Mick Dunn

That’s exactly what this race used to be about.  And no one watched it.

So now they’ve invited GT3 into the mix and it has its biggest entry list so far and with a lot more interest from home and abroad.  There are still sub $100k production cars running – just not for outright placings.

Most of these races (not sure what’s happening with this one this year) run classes as you know. I guess they are promoting the exotics in the hope of getting interest or because they think it’s all we want to see. So all being well it won’t be just a few Ferraris, Audis and Porches (Merc and Pug) running around – it’d be a pretty small field.

With all the free to air TV stations we have it would be nice to see it broadcast somewhere.

Pity this race receives such a little media coverage in Australia. I suppose it’s not about a Ford or Holden so therefore the media are not interested. I like others on this website would love to watch it on TV.

    • huwtm

Me too, They could give a couple of hours here and there with updates if they didn’t want the whole thing.

  • Birty_B

What’s better then watching track spec versions of some of the worlds best supercars. Hope we get to watch it before an hour long highlights package at 3am on 7 Mate in 4 months.

    The real Bathurst!

    • huwtm

      I agree

If you are into motor racing, COTF is a great move, DTM should come to Bathurst once a year.  One will never eliminate the history between holden and ford, has been a wonderful period.

    • Igomi Watabi

I agree. I know Bathurst gets used a lot more than we see on free-to-air TV, but they should try and woo some big-name stuff to Bathurst. As well as the 1000, they could chase DTM or BTCC rounds or one-off events, as well as this awesome 12-hour. It is a track that enthusiasts around the world are aware of, and yet it’s underutilised. I know they’ve still gotta turn a buck, so they have to be choosy with what they put on, but it would be great to see Bathurst getting real international exposure.

      • huwtm

They had a massive field for the race.

The advertising and promotions dept are TOTALLY USELESS  in promoting this event….No print Media,Radio Media, Television ads,……….ABSOLUTELY NOTHING………..Best kept secret in the Australian Motor Racing Calendar…….I would have attended Mount Panorama,to view these super sports cars had i known it was on.!!!!!!!

    • huwtm

It was purely by accident that I noticed it in a small box here. Totally agree with you.
