Opel Adam continues new rally push

The Opel Adam R2 rally car will be presented at next month's Geneva motor show as part of the German brand's continued push into the world of rallying.

Built to FIA R2 class rally regulations, the new Opel Adam R2 is a step above the Opel Adam Cup rally car seen in November, which was designed to compete in an introductory category aimed at allowing young drivers to progress towards higher European competition such as the R2 class.

Wearing a unique body shell with components from Opel’s OPC product line and quick release catches on the hood and tailgate, the Adam R2 scores a 138kW/190Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, Sadev five-speed sequential gearbox and a limited-slip differential.

With tarmac and gravel rallies in mind, a hydraulic handbrake and four-piston Brembo front brake calipers join a full roll cage, Sparco race seats, an LCD gear indicator, map reading light and an electric fire extinguisher.

Opel says the Opel Adam R2 will be eligible for every national championship in Europe, as the company progresses with its new motorsport strategy for 2013.
