2007 Subaru Liberty GT spec.B Tuned by STi MY07

April 11, 2007 by Alborz Fallah

Whilst Subaru designers have ruined the mighty WRX with the 2008 Impreza shape, the team that has worked on the Liberty have created a masterpiece of modern automotive engineering. Best of all, Subaru Australia are doing a special edition, Tuned by STi version of the MY07 Liberty GT spec.B.

The new GT tuned by STi will be available as sedan and wagon and in both manual and automatic transmission. Subaru plans to sell the cars from $65,990.

Previously when the MY06 Tuned by STi went on sale in 2006, the limited numbers quickly vanished out the door, and there is no reason why the MY07 version will be any different.

Our tuned by STI special edition vehicles have been very well received by customers. This is reflected in both initial sales and, later on, in resale values for these premium sports vehicles. Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia said

We’ve created a niche for locally tuned performance vehicles. This has been made possible through continued support from Fuji Heavy Industries and our local engineers who spend months testing and perfecting these vehicles for Australian conditions.

The list of features for the Tuned by STi version includes:

  • An upgraded ECU producing 194kW of power at 6000rpm, up 10kW.
  • Torque increased 11Nm to 350Nm, also kicking in earlier at 2800rpm.
  • 18 inch STI ENKEI lightweight alloy wheels with Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tyres,
  • Bilstein sports tuned dampers matched to STI lowered springs (not sure if these are the well known pink springs)
  • Pillow-ball bush suspension components by STI
  • STI Brembo performance brake upgrade
  • Two STI twin tip sports mufflers

If you must buy this car in an Auto, you would be happy to know that the automatics have a revised transmission control unit (TCU) producing a faster, sportier response. However for those of us not scared to tell our other half that it either the Manual or nothing, the Manual variants feature a six-speed STI short shift gear lever helping reduce the distance between gears.

Apart from the mechanical upgrades, the exterior gets an STI front lip spoiler, with unique model badging. Whilst the Sedan versions also feature an STI rear boot spoiler.

Inside, supportive leather seats include an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat with dual memory settings. Premium interior appointments also include a 14 speaker McIntosh sound system, with six stack in dash CD/MP3/WMA player.

You also get Subaru Intelligent Drive and a factory fitted sunroof as standard. Liberty GT tuned by STI is available in two colours: Obsidian Black – with a limited number featuring charcoal wheels – and Brilliant Silver with brushed silver wheels.

As usual only 300 of these individually numbered Libertys are being produced, there will be a 150/150 split between Auto and Manual. The 2007 Subaru Liberty GT spec.B Tuned by STi is now available from Subaru dealers.

Wow, I can’t imagine how this car came out of the same manufacturer, after seeing their example of the Wrecks they “designed”.
