It boasts an evolutionary design over the original Murano launched five years ago, which Nissan claim spawned the cross over genre.

Local models will receive a more powerful 3.5-litre V6 engine which develops 191kW of power and 336Nm at 4400rpm.

On the combined cycle, the new Murano uses 10.9 litres of petrol per 100kms while producing 259 grams per 100kms of CO2.

“The basic engine architecture hasn’t changed, but attention to fine detail has helped develop an engine that not only delivers more power, but does so using less fuel and producing fewer emissions.” says Nissan Motor Co. (Australia) Managing Director and CEO, Dan Thompson.

The engine is mated to a revised six-speed Xtronic CVT gearbox which has been optimised for quicker and more intuitive shifts.

Power is transferred to the ground through an intelligent all mode four-wheel-drive system with electronic 4WD selection and lock mode, including Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Active Brake limited Slip and Traction Control System (TCS).

Standard features include push button start, double stitched leather seat trim, leather steering wheel and gear knob, dual zone climate control, cruise control, six-stacker stereo system with MP3 auxiliary input and six speakers plus steering wheel audio controls.

The flagship Ti variant adds front heated seats, a BOSE audio system with 11 speakers including two subwoofers, satellite navigation, reverse parking camera and hands free Bluetooth phone system.

The new Nissan Murano arrives in Australia priced at $45,990 for the ST model and $55,890 for the Ti model.

magnificant improvements over old model. FYI car advice the present tiptronic gear ratios ad up to six not five. cheers

  2. realcars says:

Looks superb. Murano best looking in class always imo.

    An even better v6 Wow.

That Nissan v6 engine must be one of the best in the world.

  3. S says:

Great features as standard, and a good car with a good engine. However, I cannot get over that front grill… It sticks out like a sore thumb…

    Otherwise a great vehicle.

  4. Interceptor says:

Well..its gone far from the older model, althought the front end??? Top points for the sound system!! Otherwise its quite refined.

  5. Joober says:

Agree with the front end, looks like something subaru will think of, otherwise, great car.

Realcars, Nissan engines have always been great.

  6. Devil666 says:

im gonna have to say Nissan made the right call continuing to sell the original model for so long…. means theres less of these new bastards I have to look at when they drive past….

still, an excellent proposition from the drivers seat i think.

  7. WVB says:

Not a murano fan, too ‘desperate housewives’ for me but I’m a bit of a fan of CVTs and so I’m glad nissan has stayed with the CVT. It must work for them like I think it would for many others.
It should be noted though the CVT is not so much a ‘gearbox’ but a constantly varying transmission capable of any ratio within its design range.
So from my understanding where do the 6 speeds come from?
I take it Nissan are messing about with the transmission ECU software to give the impression of up and down shifts.
Labelling it a 6 speed CVT might be a misnomer then.

  8. lazybones says:

Nicely uglified for the US Market, and wheres the diesel??

  9. JEYKL & HYDE says:

one of the best put together suv’s on the market.i drove one the other day that had 70,000kms on it.NO squeaks,rattles,groans….NOTHING.the bose system is great, and back seat legroom is awesome.

i have an issue however with heated front seat, sat nav, sound system and bluetooth/camera costing another 10 grand though…

  10. Andrew says:

LOL about the Subaru comment, it DOES look like something Subaru would do! But then again, they would make their car ugly first and better looking at the facelift, unlike what Nissan has done here.

  11. Onepoppa says:

Saw one on the road earlier this week. One of those cars which look rather like the old one, until you look carefully when you realise they are all new. Much “swoopier” than the old one – back looks great – front perhaps tries too hard.

  12. Matty B says:

The Whole ‘6 speed CVT’ just comes from the tip tronic style set up they have. Basically just 6 set ratios you can manually change between. Pretty much every CVT i’ve ever driven has the same set up, whether it be 6 or 7 “speeds”.

But apart from that, definately a car i’d never like to own. Ever since renault got involed their cars just got very confused looking. I think nissan and subaru are on about par for s**thouse designs these days. Only thing saves nissan are those three little letters. GTR.

  13. crouchy says:

If this we’re a Sssangyong you would all be ripping it to shreds for its hideous front end.

This my friends is one of the ugliest cars i have ever seen. I dont care that the read looks great, you dont just buy a rear end. This thing as a whole package just hurts my eyes.

I have no doubt that its a great car and well specced up for the money but i could not go past that styling to buy one of these fugly bastards. This make Hyundais sante fe look even more appealing! That is curvacious and has smooth lines, this is a choppy piece of wreck that doesnt deserve to make it into peoples driveways.

You watch the resale of this thing over a few years. That styling was good for about 30 seconds.

    370 – FAIL
    MURANO – FAIL
    TIIDA – OBVIOUS FAIL
GTR – NISSANS LAST AND ONLY WINNER

  14. Forza M says:

Crouchy the only thing that failed here is you wood duck.

  15. Alan says:

That is a very ugly car, even more so than the last generation Murano. Interior looks nice though, really similar to Infiniti.

  16. Mark B says:

Man, I wish they’d sell the Infinity FX40 & FX50 here. Never mind the Murano and its smashed-crab looks – the FX is a gob-smacker. Goes like the clappers too with 300kW of 5.0-litre V8. (Drinks a bit too, but hey – who doesn’t?)

  17. Falcodore says:

WOW, even Toyota doesnt make anything that ugly!

Whats with Nissan design? They seem to be making the fugliest cars lately…Tiida, 370 and now this abomination!

Its bad enough we have to put up with all those bland Toyotas on the road without having to see ugly Nissans. Thank god Ssangyong might be about to bite the dust.

  18. crouchy says:

FORZA M – “Crouchy the only thing that failed here is you wood duck.”

Nice response. It is a shame your intelligence seems only to strecth as far as childish insults.

I feel that Nissan has absolutely failed with their styling of late. Merely my opinion and last time i checked, i am entitled to it.

If you are going to debate it, then debate it. If you are going to take a stab at everyone who has a say, its back to primary school to do some growing up my friend.

  19. JEYKL & HYDE says:

    falcodore,

toyota do actually make a car which is in my opinion uglyier than murano.it called the freddie kruger.its shaped like a streched out honda hrt…

  20. JEYKL & HYDE says:

    opps…hrv

  21. Rick says:

When I saw a rear end photo in the papers the other day, I actually thought the new Murano will be much better looking than the old one….unti I saw this article… the front grille – it is just hideous! ditto about the new Maxima – the front end is just plain UGLY!
They are considering to compete with BMW and the likes? Oh please…

  22. Matty B says:

Gee, i was getting worried there for a while I was the only one who thought this thing was hideous.

  23. crouchy says:

dw matty i was thinking the same thing but thankfully it appears some people round here have taste =P

  24. Alex says:

That front grill is nasty. I think it looks OK from the back and the interior looks good but the front? Yuck. Horrible. I’d much rather an updated Tribeca but then again, I am lucky enough not to be forced into a market where they try to make Japanese SUVs sound like they are in competition with the X5 and M Class. I can afford the X5.

  25. Forza M says:

Crouchy if you cant handle it go have a cry on your mums shoulder. You are right everyone is entiltled to an opinion. My opinion is that anyone who cains cars that he has not ever driven or seen in the flesh (Murano and 370)should keep his mouth shut.

    Thats my opinion….

  26. Mark Greenburg says:

I saw a new Murano (white) on the freeway about a week ago. It looks small, I almost mistook it for a Dualis at the back. From the side it looks better, but the styling will date quickly.

  27. Falcodore says:

Seen a nissan micra in the flesh, made me want to gouge my eyes out!

  28. crouchy says:

    FORZA,

I somehow think that seeing this beast in the flesh wont do it any favours. I dont like the styling direction that Nissan are taking… thats all im saying and thats my opinion.

We will see what happens when they start selling them.. much like the micra, the numbers will tell all.

  29. Forza M says:

crouchy, i urge you to ring your local Nissan dealer tomorrow and ask them how the Micra is going, i think you might be suprised, not everyone likes a car styled like an EL Falcon champ

  30. Crouchy says:

Haha dont be so ridiculous. I just realise that there is a difference between stylish and trying way to hard to be stylish.

The dualis is another failure… sorry forgot to mention that. That is down the other end of the boring/ugly scale.

I have a mate who works at Main north nissan here in SA so i asked him and he said its going OK… tbh i was surprised by that… by the number i see on the road i wouldve thought it would be struggling. Must be young girls who get sucked in by these ‘cute for 1 minute’ cars..

Perhaps they are all still on their learners????

  31. Ian says:

The front end of this is a disappointment and overall, I prefer the original’s exterior design. The interior is a huge step forward.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the polarising looks of this, the strong(er) competition and the downturn in the economy will all conspire to ensure this is yet another Nissan (Micra and Navara excepted) that doesn’t meet sales targets.

  32. Hellsfull says:

I really like the look and talk about value for money try to buy anything with the same equipment level for those $$$$

  33. Ron says:

I think the Murano is great and good value for your buck.
