Caterham to launch new entry-level karting series for young drivers

The master of lightweight motoring, Caterham, will launch a new low-cost, karting championship series designed to give young motorsport enthusiasts an accessible and affordable starting point into racing.

Drawing on the British manufacturer’s years of experience running one-make racing championships, Caterham Motorsport will launch the new karting series applying the same level of expertise and regulations.

Open to novices only, Caterham says the championship is aimed at a maximum of 120 competitors aged between 13 and 16 from families who might not have considered karting as an option due to the related costs.

The season will comprise six one-day events with all racers competing in identical Caterham CK-01 karts with full technical support from Caterham Motorsport.

Caterham Group CEO Tony Fernandes says the series creates an opportunity for a new demographic to experience motorsport. “Caterham Karting will once again make this fantastic sport accessible to everyone, without losing any element of the competition and experience.”

The all-inclusive season package, priced at $7620, includes the ready-to-race CK-01 kart, guidance through the process of obtaining the required racing licence, a paddock trolley and entry to the six-event UK-based season.

The inaugural Caterham Karting championship series is due to begin in early 2014.
