Hyundai HCD-14: luxury sedan concept teases next Genesis

A teaser of the Hyundai HCD-14 concept has been released ahead of the luxury sedan's unveiling at next week's 2013 Detroit motor show.

Giving the world "a glimpse into future Hyundai premium vehicle design", the HCD-14 concept previews the second-generation Genesis sedan, which is expected to be unveiled in production form later this year.

The South Korean manufacturer is keeping details of the Hyundai HCD-14 concept close to its chest for now, but promises it will display “spirited driving dynamics” and feature “advanced 3D gesture-based technology controls” inside its cabin.

Images captured by CarAdvice’s spy photographers last month confirmed the new Genesis will feature an evolution of the brand’s ‘Storm Edge’ design language first seen on the latest Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, which is distinguished by its bold headlights with LED lamps and running lights, prominent chrome-tipped hexagonal grille with horizontal slats, and clean panels and tight lines.

The HCD-14 concept’s tapered roofline is reminiscent of the Audi A7 Sportback and the Mercedes-Benz CLS, suggesting the next Hyundai Genesis will aim to mirror the design of its luxury ‘four-door coupe’ counterparts.

Hyundai is yet to confirm if the all-new Genesis will be produced in right-hand drive, and as such it’s unclear at this stage whether the premium large sedan will be sold alongside the next Genesis Coupe in Australia, which remains on track for our market for 2015.

Stay tuned for more details of the Hyundai HCD-14 concept following its debut at next week’s Detroit motor show.
