Peugeot RCZ headed to Bathurst

Two Peugeot RCZ sports cars will mark the French car maker's return to Mount Panorama at next year's Bathurst 12 Hour endurance race.

Making its first factory-backed return to the iconic mountain circuit since 1992, the two Peugeot Sport Peugeot RCZ race cars, will be the only factory-based competitors to take part in the 2013 event.

Three French drivers, Stephane Caillet, Bruce Jouanny and Julien Rueflin, will drive one car, while a group of local drivers yet to be announced will share the second car.

Developed over the past two years, the two Bathurst cars are powered by a tuned version of the Peugeot RCZ’s 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 190kW of power and 290Nm of torque. Modifications to the suspension, aerodynamics and fuel tanks join other race-focused changes to reduce the car’s weight by 120kg.

The new Peugeot RCZ race cars will compete in a new Invitational Class for cars up to 1600cc when the 2013 Bathurst 12 Hour kicks off on February 8-10.
