2009 Mercedes-Benz CLK Coupe spied

By George Skentzos |

Here we have our clearest look yet of an almost completely undisguised example of the new generation Mercedes-Benz CLK Coupe.

The new CLK Coupe and Cabriolet is larger and more focussed than its predecessor, closely resembling the new E-Class range rather than the C-Class from which it has been derived.

Current rumours suggest the new generation model will be called the E-Class Coupe rather than the CLK in order to simplifying the current Mercedes-Benz line-up.

The new model has undergone significant refinement to the chassis over the standard C-Class range in order to meet the performance expectations of coupe drivers.

It will however share its engine line-up with the C-Class range, including a flagship V8-powered CLK 500 and obligatory AMG variant.

The CLK Coupe is expected to arrive in showrooms by early 2009 with the Cabriolet model to make its debut a few months later.

There’s no next-generation CLK coupe. It will be merged (back) with the E-Class range to become the E-Class coupe.

Mark, it is mentioned in the article but has not yet been officially confirmed.

  • Lee

As Mark said. The CLK is no more. It will get the E Class Coupe name.

  • Myke

The C-Class coupe would have made more sense, considering it’s based on the C-Class and would most likely rival the 3-Series coupe.

Does anyone else think Mercedes design are getting worse every generation? It looks like a confused S class and C class mixed together.

ou ou ou me………..then again they are aimed at the old folk………..he he he ……..

  • MB

Aimed at old folk…yep those SL 65 Blacks and for that matter all AMG blacks are so Octogenarian

Myke, I think this move makes more sense. Badging the car as an E-Class coupe will allow Mercedes to charge a considerable premium for the vehicle over the E-Class sedan, resulting in more profit. The CLK, on the other hand, was always priced a bit lower than the E. Secondly, it will allow Mercedes to include the coupe in it’s E-Class sales figures. I think their range currently has far too many models – so any simplication is a good thing.

If you just saw the first photograph and didn’t read the article [which tells you its a Merc-Benz]; you could almost be mistaken for thinking it was a new Holden Coupe

It has similar grille to the VE with the centralised badge and the headlights look as if they’re off of a WM Statesman as well as those rolled flared guards.

I don’t get the idea of having the tacky little 1/4 window at the back makes it look more like a [CLS] sedan

Whats up MB you think old people dont drive fast cars ?

I dont get Benz these days. When I was young, we had the 450 SL, SEL and SLC, all were beautiful and exclusive. Even the 280′s looked good. Now they seem to have 50 different classes, each uglier than the last. Really only the big coupes do it for me – this thing looks like it was built in Korea, and the sedans? – well at least they make BMW sedans look OK in comparison, and audi’s are starting to look exciting against them.

I too miss the good old days of just 4 classes: C, E, S and SL.
