Mitch, I read in another article that the engine was designed so that 500nm of torque is on tap within 500ms from idle, so the first turbocharger gets the engine to 500Nm, and then the second stage provides further boost to reach 600Nm.

The 2.7 Litre was co-designed by Ford and Peugeot as this
appears to be an upgraded version of, Ford would has access
to this engine for various applications. This including the
Falcon/Territory. Sure the Falcon/Territory is engineered for a Straight Six but it also houses a V8 so a V6 Diesel
shouldn't be a too much of a problem.
Apart of Ford's contract selling Jag to Tara, Ford agreed it would assist in engine development and tech.
Tom, Hello B...er off this is Fords gem-of-a engine NOT Holdens!? Go get that "thing" in the Caddilac.
Certainly NOT in the same leauge as a This/B.M.W/Audi/Merc

Alex the 2.7 engine is a Pug engine as found in the Citroen C5, C6 and Pug 407. I heard months ago that Jag were going to wack a 3.0 Derv in the car but I think its there own modified 2.7, so could still be classed as french engine.
Frugal One's talking his usual crap again. The French have alway lead in diesel and the rest have followed but they do now do an impressive collection of derv burners.

Well I think that must be the one to get. I have seriously considered this car and this engine may just push it over the line.

Where did this whole Peugeot thing come from? There's nothing about it in the article and Peugeot certainly don't use this engine, do they?

FrugalOne, you can't go spouting stuff about an engine until it's in a car, driven and graded. Considering the 2.7 diesel is already excellent, it would have to be at least a bit better than that in every way, no? So it must be a very good engine or Jaguar wouldn't use it. Besides, even if they are Peugeot engines, what's wrong with that? Germans are in front when it comes to diesel and Fiat's MultiJet diesels and Alfa Romeo's JTDm diesels are great but I think Peugeot/Citroen and Renault's diesels are really quite good. They're certainly not bad, most of them at least.

But given that there is no way you have driven a car with this engine yet, then your point remains baseless. You have no idea if this engine is as smooth as the Beemer engine, or as quiet. Neither do I, but I'm not the one derailing it from the start. With regard to the reported specs, it seems a bit all over the place when it comes to reported torque. Some report 600Nm, some report 570Nm. Its also reported as getting 42MPG and 179g/km, which is fractionally more efficient that the BMW 535d.

So even if it is slightly noisier, or less smooth, for the torque and efficiency alone you have to give this engine its due.

Love it! Can't afford it :(
The time for perfomance diesels was yesterday but more than happy to see it happening. High performance and frugal consumption. Thanks Jaguar - if I could - I certainly would!
Well said John T, my thoughts exactly!

Most impressive. Is it still a Peugeot unit? This engine combination would really allow Jaguar to take the XF right up against its German rivals.

F-0, before you sprout utter cr*p at least do a little research. The BMW twin-turbo 3L diesel as found in the 535d produces 10kw more power but 55Nm less torque than the new Jag engine. So I'd say it is more than a patch on German diesel engines.

Awesome job Jag, good to see you're still holding your own.
