2013 Porsche Cayman to debut at Los Angeles auto show
The all-new Porsche Cayman will make its world premiere at the 2012 Los Angeles auto show on November 28.
Although Porsche is attempting to keep some mystery around the unveiling – the Stuttgart-based manufacturer has only officially confirmed that a "compact sports car" will debut at the show – it is no great secret that the car behind the curtain will be the Boxster-based Cayman.
The second-generation two-seat sports coupe will hit international showrooms in 2013, replacing the original Cayman that launched more than seven years ago in 2005.
Like the first-gen model (above), the mid-engined rear-wheel-drive 2013 Porsche Cayman will get slight power and performance advantages over the Boxster – roughly in the region of a 10kW boost and a one- to two-tenth 0-100km/h improvement.
With the third-generation 981-series Porsche Boxster producing 195kW and 280Nm from its 2.7-litre flat-six engine and the hotter 3.4-litre Boxster S generating 232kW and 360Nm from its 3.4-litre six, expect the standard Cayman to be in the range of 200kW and 5.5sec 0-100km and the Cayman S to peak at around 240kW and sub-5.0sec from zero to triple figures.
As with the old model, the new Cayman will also carry a price premium over the Boxster. Expect the Cayman to be priced from around $120,000 and the Cayman S to kick off at approximately $150,000 when they arrive in Australia next year.
The full details of the 2013 Porsche Cayman will be revealed later this month when the German sports coupe makes its Los Angeles debut.
