Ford executive shuffle: Mulally to lead until 2014; Fields waiting in the wings

The man who spearheaded Ford Motor Company's 'One Ford' globalisation strategy will remain at the helm of the Blue Oval until at least 2014, although a reshuffle of the brand's management team has hinted at his potential successor.

Ford executive chairman Bill Ford has confirmed Alan Mulally (pictured top) will continue to serve as the company's president and CEO throughout 2014, remaining responsible for leading the long-term strategic development of the One Ford program and its continuous improvement.

The big announcement is the promotion of Mark Fields (pictured below) from the role of president of Ford of The Americas (a title he has held since 2005) to Ford Motor Company chief operating officer.

Fields, 51, will be responsible for all business operations in a role that is essentially grooming him to take over from Mulally, 67, as president and CEO as early as 2015.

Fields joined Ford in 1989 and rose through the ranks to lead Mazda Motor Company as president and CEO from 2000 to 2002, and has also held a number of other roles throughout North and South America.

Fields will be replaced in the role of president of Ford of The Americas by Joe Hinrichs, the man currently responsible for overseeing Ford’s operations in our Asia Pacific region.

Replacing Hinrichs will be David Schoch, who has been with Ford since 1977 and is currently chairman and CEO of Ford Motor China.
