Full Throttle in a Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe
December 18, 2008 by Alborz Fallah
When we left France and the Bugatti Veyron we all thought we’d never find another car that would make us go Wow! Well, we did.
The CarAdvice garage is currently blessed with the Spirit of Ecstasy in the form of a Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe.
Our $1.19-million ultra-luxury Roller is one of only two Phantom Coupes currently in Australia.
The V12 naturally aspirated Phantom not only symbolises the epitome of luxury cars but the Coupe goes that extra step further being a driver’s car.
Expect a full review plus our Full Throttle video early next year.
For now, it’s time to go for another drive …

This is a lovely car. I haven’t driven one, but I have driven a DHC and a Phantom Limousine and they are wonderful cars. I think this would be the pick of the bunch because the DHC is too showy and the Limousine looks like you should be getting driven in it, not driving it, which is quite unfortunate I think. I wouldn’t have a black one, I think I would have a red one, a dark green one or maybe a blue one – the darker colours are either boring (the colour that is, it’s hard to make this car boring), or look like a rapper or a footballer should be driving it which is, once again, unfortunate. Plus the fact that they only ever seem to be bought in Black, Silver, White, Navy Blue or Grey so it would be a bit interesting to get, say, a red one.
The thing I love most about Rolls Royce’s is still the power reserve dial, one of the coolest things in any car, ever.
The name definitely fits this car: a “phantom” coupe…It definitely looks intimidating!
Wow one of you guys will have a fun Christams cruising around inn that! Please dont prang it. We will never let you live it down.
I was in Sydney a few weeks ago when I saw a Phanton Sedan with some 22″ “Bling” alloys on it. I nearly crashed my hired Mondeo. Just goes to show that money does not buy class, and you can have money and still be a bogan at heart.
Now that’s just teasing!
How do they get the RR symbol to stay upright in the alloys?
^The badge is weighted and floats in the hub so it remains straight when the wheels are turning. Talk about attention to detail.
my fave feature would have to be the Spirit of Ecstasy comin out of the bonnet
I agree Shak – what about the hub caps on the wheels which have roller ball bearings in them so that the RR logo stays upright as the wheel rotates – that’s also a very unique feature….
Mind you I guess if you have to look at the wheels to determine whether or not it’s a Roller something’s wrong
