the usual shutdown depends on where in the week Xmas day falls.

this year it falls mid week, and you will find the common shut down period will be 3 weeks.

when it falls in a less awkward part of a week, the usual shut down will be 2 weeks

You are right however, most are bringing forward or extending shutdowns. Even Toyota Aus.

Ford Australia, Holden and Toyota are shutting down their Aust factories for roughly a month as well. As I said this just sounds like the standard shut down that has happened every year that I have been involved with the industry (read 25). I’d lay money on it that at least 3/4′s of the factories around the world follow suit. Perhaps teh stretching out to a month may be different, but the usual is at least 3 weeks.

FIAT are shutting its factorys in Italy for 1 month too.

Others the same too.

You think they would have slowed down production months ago, instead kept going full steam ahead and now have yards/wharfs full of vehicles and no buyers..

CUT THE PRICES GUYS, i will put my hand up for a i30 or Corolla at the right price

Is this a market forced shut down? Or the standard shut down over the Christmas period to allow maintenance, retooling where nessecary and such as per the larger majority of (not just automotive) factories?
19th to the 19th sounds pretty normal if you were to ask me.
