2013 Mazda6 specifications

The all-new 2013 Mazda6 has been officially unveiled in Sydney ahead of the car's public unveiling at this week's Sydney motor show.

The third-generation Mazda6 continues on the tradition of its predecessors by offering a stylish and well-equipped package that is set to reignite interest in the medium-car segment.

The new Mazda6 marks the second vehicle in the company’s lineup to adapt the new KODO design philosophy first seen on the popular Mazda CX-5. The new family look is reflected in the front and rear design of the new Mazda6, which is much sharper and bolder than the model it replaces.

Locally, the new Mazda6 will be available with a choice of two engines and two body types, including a diesel automatic for the first time. There will be no manual variant given the insignificant demand. The company’s 2.5-litre Skyactive petrol engine makes its debut in the Mazda6 with 138kW of power and of 250 Nm of torque. It consumes 6.6 litres of standard 91 RON fuel per 100km.

The 2.2-litre Skyactive diesel sips just 5.4L/100km and has a power output of 129kW but with a massive 420Nm of torque. Both engines are coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Mazda6 diesel narrowly misses out on being the most fuel-efficient car in its class, losing out to the Toyota Camry Hybrid, which consumes 5.2L/100km.

The new Mazda6 range boats a very comprehensive list of new-generation active safety technologies. These form Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE range of features, which include:

  • Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC)
  • Forward Obstruction Warning (FOW)
  • Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
  • Rear Vehicle Monitoring (RVM)
  • High-Beam Control System (HBC)
  • Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS)
  • Smart Brake Support (SBS)
  • Smart City Brake Support (SCBS)
  • Acceleration Control for Automatic Transmission

Pricing and exact release date for the new Mazda6 is remains unknown for the time being but Mazda is expected to release new details at the Mazda presentation at tomorrow’s Sydney motor show.
