Volvo C30 production officially ends

Volvo Car Australia has confirmed production of the Volvo C30 hatch has come to an end, with the brand's smallest model having already been removed from its European line-up.

With no direct replacement in the pipeline, the compact C30 coupe will be replaced - at least in the short term - by the all-new Volvo V40 five-door hatchback, which is due in local showrooms in December.

Volvo is running out remaining stock of the Volvo C30, and may potentially offer some end-of-production special edition variants to help clear the last vehicles.

The three-door C30 was first released in 2006, after a design based on the Volvo SCC concept car, which was inspired by the iconic Volvo 1800PS sports wagon, itself a derivative of the classic P1800 sports car.

Since launching in Australia in 2007, Volvo has sold around 2900 C30s across the country, with sales peaking during its first full year on sale in 2008. Just 238 were sold in the first nine months of 2012, averaging 26 sales per month.

The all-new Volvo V40 hatch range, which is expected to start below $40,000, will be bolstered by the availability of the V40 R-Design variants, the V40 Cross Country, and a more powerful V40 Polestar version in the short-term future.
