The popular Korean-made Kia Sorento has been updated for the 2013 model year with a sharper look, an all new bodyshell, more variants and improvements to the interior.

The new Kia Sorento may appear as just a facelift from the outside, but the Koreans have updated the car’s bodyshell, which is now the same as the all-new Hyundai Santa Fe.

Two engines remain in the range, the 3.5-litre V6 with 204kW of power and 335Nm of torque and the popular 2.2-litre turbodiesel with 145kW of power and 421-435Nm of torque (depending on transmission). The company has kept the same six-speed automatic transmission across the range, while offering a six-speed manual for the diesel.

Updates to the exterior include standard LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), a revised front and rear bumper as well as tailgate and newly designed alloy wheels.

Kia Motors Australia chief operating officer Tony Barlow believes the new Sorento represents everything the company itself strives to be.

“This latest Sorento is bigger, better, stronger, safer and better value, all the things Kia Motors values and strives to provide for our customers.”

I hate the rear tail lights… The facelift is not all that attractive. The Santa Fe now looks the business.

    • http://twitter.com/SamMoss8191 Sam Moss

Yes very true, used to have a soft spot for the Sorento, seems like Hyundai make a better looking alternative now.

    • Zaccy16

yeah i would buy a combo of the both, santa fe looks and the kia underneath

  • Aussie

Have they changed the max towball weight and reduced the fuel tank capacity like the Santa?

  • June

Looks a tad bit plain.. the Santa Fe is so much better looking

  • Barry on the tray top .

I worry about longevity of that diesel , mates santa fe is making lots of rattly noises at 70,000km and thay wont strip the motor down , not injectors , not chain , last one he will own .

    • Robin_Graves

Bunghole has ANOTHER alias but the same tired old smokescreen story.  The VeeDud fanbois are scared of Hyundai / Kia and rightly so.  Infinitely more reliable, better styling inside and out and the handling keeps getting better with every upgrade.

      • Barry on the tray top .

No dobin we dont give a toss , obviously you ford dudes have to find another brand to replace the aging falcoon G6E , you should consider the ugly i45 , although the handling may be beyond your capabilities .

        • Robin_Graves

Scared much?  I’m not a Ford dude either, just happen to own one that I’m extremely happy with, which is the first Ford I’ve ever owned.  I dont affiliate myself with one badge like you bunghole, I’ll do my research and buy the best car for the money the suits ME and I wont buy some trash that will spend half its time in the repair shop.  Once VeeDud turn around their current problems I might even consider buying one, but at the moment I wouldn’t touch one with a ten foot barge pole.

          • Barry on the tray top .

ANOTHER 5000 last month dobin , keep researching your depreciated fossil , brrmm of in the hills again tomorrow , love the twisties , its a worry my GTI is so reliable , i got all fingers and toes crossed because the oracle tells me its going to explode.

          • Robin_Graves

Gangnam style is No1 single this week.  Is it a quality song? NO! Just because something sells well doesnt mean its any good.  VeeDud is a perfect example.  Shocking reliability and 5000 sheeple still buy them because they think they are fashionable and cool and euro prestige, what a joke.

          • Barry on the tray top .

GEE robin i think you upset some people about the song , stick to falcoon stories .

The 5000 were actually happy with their loaves and fishes .

          • Mr Irony

            Tick Tock

How long is the warranty? Just wondering.

          • Gangnamstyle

what a joke = you. gangnam style isn’t no1 just this week. it has been for two weeks. and that’s in Australia alone. best music video 2012 MTV EMAs??? guinness world record most “liked” video in history??? how many countries has this song topped no1 all over the world??? he got picked up by Scooter Braun too.
Was no1 in the UK. not anymore because of Rihanna. you obviously prefer “diamonds” than gangnam style…

          • Gangnamstyle

laughing your as s off…cant believe you compared a world wide no1 song that made a lot of history to VW…??? lololol what a joke…

          • Robin_Graves

I laughed at that film clip, once.  The song will be gone from everyone’s memory in a few weeks.  It’s hardly a Led Zeppelin timeless classic.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Karl-Sass/100000921334936 Karl Sass

It’s not another alias, he just got so sick of paying to get his Golf towed it was cheaper for him to open his own towing business : )

  • Oggy

I don’t like the Santa’s front looks at all. I much prefer the look of the Sorento and intend to buy the new model within the month.

    • craig

I agree. I think the Santa Fe looks pretty good but a bit contrived. I prefer the Sorento and also think the new Sorento looks a bit better than the current one. $50k for the Platinum seems about $5k too much but compared to a Freelander etc it is great value. I am going to compare it to the upcoming Forester and RAV4 and buy one of them. I suspect I’ll be getting the Sorento as the Forester diesel will be it’s usual gutless self with a CVT, and the RAV4 will probably get a low spec diesel with only 100-110kw.

    • Zaccy16

yeah the petrol engine in this is much beter suited to the weight than the low powered 2.4 in the santa, also fuel consumption would only be slightly worse for the v6 in the kia becuase it is not as strained

  • Waggaclint

Have you driven a Subaru diesel? Id hardly say there gutless…

  • Yakity

well try to find these prices in sunny queensland?. you will take a couple of back steps and a long gasp. qld prices are $ 5000.00 higher . to rub salt in the wound i saw US prices that are almost half of the price we pay…. gotta love the aussie spirit.
