The Range Rover Evoque has strutted its way into the top spot of the 2012 Women’s World Car of the Year awards, proving its wares against a list of female-focused criteria.

The Range Rover Evoque SUV was crowned Supreme Winner after accruing the highest number of votes from a judging panel comprising female motoring writers from 12 countries.

Divided into four categories – Family car, Luxury car, Sports car, and Economy car – the Women’s World Car of the Year is based on a criteria of safety, value, aesthetic appearance, storage space, child-friendliness, ease of driving, colour, sex appeal and environmental footprint.

According to the WWCOTY website, “The winning car may not reach 0-100km/h in less than so many seconds or have eye-popping Newton metres of torque. But it will be a car that appeals very strongly to women.”

The Range Rover Evoque finished ahead of the BMW 3 Series and Audi Q3 in the overall standings, and pipped its fellow Brit the Jaguar XJ and the Audi A6 in the Luxury car category.

The BMW 3 Series and Audi Q3 finished in first and second place, respectively in Family cars, with the Ford Focus claiming third.

Do you guys think this will affect sales in any way? Will this car be perceived as more feminine now?

Unless you’re some homophobic loser so far in the closet you are friends with the inhabitants of Narnia, then no.

Range Rover Evoque is a straight-out girl’s or gay guy’s car. It is ridiculous.

    • Akelmann

Also, the morons who’ve bought it have been ripped off with skinny wheels.

“Girl’s or gay guy’s car”? Are you serious? Dude it’s 2012…

What are you talking about? The Evoque in gun metal grey matte paint looks mean. I’m not big on SUV and even I love the way it looks.

      • Zaccy16

Proof positive Australia is a completely different and unique market.I’ve seen the Audi Q3 called a girl’s or hair dresser’s car in this forum by the resident penile panickers as well. True – these cars are not as expensive in Europe as they are here….however…

GM – Ford? Your salvation in this market does not rest with new sub 4 second HSV V8s. Resources people?!?!

As great as Bathurst was this year –  these are not the hero cars your looking for any more.

It IS possible to design and build GREAT cars specifically for this market. We keep hearing how well Australian designers and engineers are doing internationally and with good reason.

Some serious accountability for subsidies in terms of strategic R&D for the local industry would be a start.

For example: EVERY local manufacturer said the case for a purpose designed and built Australian Taxi couldn’t be made. If that doesn’t tell you the system is broke nothing will.

Any number of technologies developed as part of system wide design and innovation are potential export and royalty earners. Are we the clever country or not?

Looking beyond our own laps – too gay?

It won because Victoria Beckham designed it!
