Clarkson to collect $7.9m from sale of production company stake

Controversial Top Gear star Jeremy Clarkson is set to collect a huge $7.9 million payout after selling his stake in his Bedder 6 production company to the BBC.

The sale also involves the program's executive producer, Andy Wilman, Clarkson's partner in Bedder 6, and is said to be worth around $12.6 million in total, which will see the BBC take full control of the popular TV series.

Clarkson is also believed to earn an annual talent fee of $789,000, which will remain fixed for another three years – the additional term of the contract that Clarkson and Top Gear co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May recently signed on for.

Commenting on the new deal, BBC Worldwide said: “This agreement secures the commercial future of Top Gear without using a penny of licence fee money and allows us to continue to grow the brand around the world and return profits to the BBC.”

Clarkson will also earn a fee from the show’s commercial revenue in return for promoting the series.
