Volkswagen Scirocco Studie R concept
December 4, 2008 by George Skentzos
Volkswagen has premiered its latest concept at the Bologna Motor Show, inspired by the Scirocco GT24 racer which competed at the Nürburgring 24-hour endurance race earlier this year.
The Scirocco Studie R is finished in white, with red and green accents on the wing mirrors which pay homage to the show’s host nation.
The design study boasts an uprated 199kW 2.0-litre TSI engine with larger air intakes at the front to assist with cooling.
Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed DSG transmission, where a front splitter adds down force to assist with traction to get all that power to the tarmac.
The rear is dominated by a large rear wing and a distinctive revised rear bumper which incorporates a diffuser and twin oval exhausts.
It is fitted with race derived sports suspension and four-piston brake callipers which sit behind specially developed bespoke polished five arm, triple spoke 19-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the Scirocco Studie R is upholstered with black and white nappa leather and complemented by carbon fibre trim.
The Italian-inspired red and green design accents continue on the seams of the Recaro seats, steering wheel, armrest, gear knob and floor mats.
Not merely a stillborn concept, the Scirocco Studie R essentially previews the forthcoming “R” version of the three-door coupe.

WOW!
That looks awesome! :D
that does look really nice.
cant wait till its out
That looks awesome!!
Where do I sign up for one??? Wonder how long it will take to get here if ever???
Pity VW aust won’t bring it.
This looks brilliant, except for the rear spoiler which is indeed a spoiler on the road version. White seat trim can be easily subdued, too, before it gets stained and grubby looking from everyday use. A quick swap to the Golf GTI steering wheel and that fixes the minor personalisations required for my taste :)
199kw and 350nm with adaptive suspension and 4 pot calipers – I want I want I want I want I want I want
Yes please, I want…..!!!!!!
I’d trade my R32 for one!!
Hope they put the V6 in this with 4Motion!!
Subaru…………. Take note
Looks very, very nice (except for the spoiler). I don’t know if my aging back would let me own one, though!
DSG with 199kW – who was the knob who said DSG wouldn’t handle the R32’s or GTi’s output (184kW and 147kW respectively)?
Will Skoda come out with a cheaper version? This would be loads of fun to drive
Where do I sign up for one??? This is really hot!!
I am a VW driver and this is just stunning I just love the interior those seats look awesome.
i actually emailed the head of VW Australia, and she replied within a day!
Email her on:

I told how I was really hoping it would come to Australia. She told me at this stage VW Australia was trying to figure out the best way to place it in the Australian market place. I mentioned one way of doing it without eating into Golf sales would be to get rid of the 3 Door Golf GT, GTI and R32
and have the Scirocco take the spot of the 3 door golf with equivilant prices to boot!
She said that my idea was one of many being thrown around to to hopfully expect the car to arrive down under in 2010.
Email her to express your interest!!!
