Choose your friends wizely ezz. Happy with a Kluger! has he driven it yet without dozing off or continually mounting gutters because of the exonvaldez like steering.

Make sure he gets the v6 serviced before time the v6's have been known to fail to oil sludge

For every good news story about a Toyota someone will have a bad one, it seems. For me personally, I used to think they were of better quality than most and invested in a Lexus IS200 in 2002 (new). It burnt oil faster than I could refill it and the same thing has occurred with my neighbours Avalon (belches out smoke when he starts it for christ's sake. Also had a recall on minor stuff such as cracks in the centre console facia and wasn't impressed with the paint quality. I should add that its value after 4yrs was $21k ($57k new). Was expecting more than that, as my residual was $23k.

Doesn't necessarily mean they are crap, but I have been burnt and wouldn't buy one again.

We currently have a Territory AWD 6spd which whilst not perfect, runs like a dream but then have a friend who loves his Kluger. Horses for courses, it seems.

^Or skip the Toyota dealership and drop into a Mazda or Honda Showroom, because I'm sure most brands would have savings around January.

Brilliant marketing hype from the masters at toyota!

So Sales have hit a brick wall & in an effort to prop up December sales they've put out there that 2009 prices will have to rise. "you'll have to hurry"

My advice, hold off they will have too many 08 vehicles(which should be at least 10-15% cheaper in 09 anyway) and walk in to the dealer at the end of january.

Sam Says:
December 3rd, 2008 at 12:47 pm
My 10 years old corolla is still going strong and flat a flat battery is the only thing that has every stopped it. But I was shocked last week when I learned you still cant but a corolla with stability control. How lame.

Lol, And in 10 years of you owning your Corolla can you tell me when youve actually needed it?

A car so small and well balanced they are very hard to get out of control unless your doing somethign stupid.

you will see the addition of VSC on corollas going into 2009 however :)

Obviously it wasn't enough for Toyota to make the most boring vehicles on the planet. They now back that up by making those cars even more expensive.

Another top reason not to buy one.

Good on ya genii at Toyota HQ!

I would love to know where people get there facts on figures on sales and how much stock is sitting in yards etc etc etc.

I would be that not many people on here knew that toyota had its second biggest November ever last month, and that stock is hardly a problem. Prices of toyotas have always been going up, just about every 6 months they get a price rise.

If you look at the cost of importing anything from Japan in any segment, TV's house hold goods. The actual cost of these have gone up %30 wich means your New plasma sreen is set for a price rise as well.

To those who think that because the price is going up means they can get some stuff for free if they ask for it are complete idiots, Toyota Australia are charging the dealerships that much more to sell the cars, the cost has gone up, not the profit margins! there is no such thing as free when it comes to car sales.

At the end of the day. Its not the first price rise and it wont be the last, It hasnt hurt them in the past and it wont hurt them in the future. (my bet would be 6 months form now when the next rise comes in)

Actually Wheelnut no local producer can afford to drop prices, its bad business (sure you clear stock, but..)

You can buy the 60th ed Omega for less than 30k drive away with 18's, some leather and blue tooth, jesus, if it had a six speed box I would almost buy one myself! As for resale values of the poor buggers that purchased earlier..listen take off the on roads and dealer delivery its almost competing against the Epica! (pre giveaway price)

Always been said there is more money in big cars, but you have to wonder these days, they are being priced mid sized almost..

Agree that the price rise from Toyota is disappointing however, but this is a business decision, will have to wait and see if it impacts on sales.

And yes, Toyota does need to improve in the build quality stakes, living on past rep at the moment when one looks at recalls and so called "product enhancements" over the last few years.

Quote [Dlr]: I also enjoy the wingers who complain about Toyotas and then say but ill never buy one. If your not going to buy one then why worry?

Ever heard of sarcasm?

Most of the long term regulars on here such as Bavarian Missile Andrew M Golfschwein and myself know what cars the other bloggers on here do and don't particularly like.

We are having fun because there are a handful of so called car enthusiasts on here with a holier than thou attitude who like to think that Toyota are immune from anything bad happening to them - after 50 odd years in Australia for example they are finally number one and the Toyo-philes seem to think that Toyota will be No1 for the next 50yrs

Given the downturn the global economy is experiencing [thanks mainly to the USA] price rises are the last thing a company would want particularly an importer.. The reduction of Tariffs may help a bit but not if the dollar continues to fall etc

Therefore; this will have a negative impact on Toyota sales particularly on their most popular cars - Yaris Corolla Kluger etc.

Whereas Holden and Fords most popular cars are made here in Australia.. They can afford to drop the prices of Falcons and Commodores as they don't have such high shipping costs etc to contend with

"I pity anyone who bought a new VE a few months ago "

I had a customer with a 07 VE SS, paid just over $50k for it less then 12 months ago. Now with 9000km on it, because of the $39,990 drive away campaign has dropped over 20k in 12 months.

Gotta love how all the Toyota haters seem to be angry that they are putting their prices up. Shouldn't you be happy? I'd be angry if i was at Toyota dealer and happier if I was a competitor. I also enjoy the wingers who complain about Toyotas and then say but ill never buy one. If your not going to buy one then why worry? As for the resale argument, putting prices up slightly does not harm resale values, putting them down dramatically does. I pity anyone who bought a new VE a few months ago and now sees new Omegas for 29999 drive away. Or anyone who 6 months ago paid 42K for an SS ute, now tho see them at 34K on road.

Ford suffered less of a blow in lost market share then Toyota in USA last month. Considering Toyota sell lots - thats a big "HUGE" reduction. Ford lost less then 30%!

James,
Resale values of 1 yo cars? What's your point? I don't see how that screams "value for money"

Toyotas established models are all poor value for money when funtionality and features are compared with others in class = poor short term value.

My personal experience with Toyotas has shown that the alleged reliability has not been there, with at least three serious mechanical failures (from 6 cars) and general servicing costs even higher than our Subarus.
= poor long term value.

Proof? No articles, no opinion, just factual experience.

James stop with the paid pro-Toyota propaganda allready!

Funny other car companies aren't jacking up their prices, Toyota really annoys me. Their are already overpriced, they are the greediest car company with little return when you purchase one of their whitegoods. With the company's reliability flagging, their is nothing desirable about their cars.

I'm about as big a toyota fan as the John daly is of salad. But the fact remains more than 1 in 5 cars sold in Australia is a Toyota. Has been for a few years now. Residual values of all cars at the moment is in the toilet, and if anything, putting the prices up on will only help this cause it will only have a minimal impact on sales. Cause lets face it, people will still go look at them, and the dealers will still carve them up.

Going back to the topic at hand. Can't you just bargain them out anyway? Yes, you can pay for those extra $1000, but you can also ask the dealers extra stuff for you since you're paying more. I'm sure that they can afford it, as I know the dealers jack up the price way above the build prices.

As for reliability, I had a friend who didn't know anything about cars. Didn't even know that cars have regular service intervals. He drove his Corolla for 2 YEARS straight without servicing. Daily driving. For 2 years the car holds out until it's completely unservicable at the end of it. Now that's what I call tough (engine wise).

I would like to see all manufacturers try that and see which engine can last the longest.

I don't get it. If they raise their prices won't that mean that LESS people will buy them??? That's my way of thinking anyway.
