Bentley Continental GT3 concept: British marque set to race in 2013

The Bentley Continental GT3 concept race car has been revealed ahead of the 2012 Paris motor show, signalling the exclusive British marque's return to racing for the first time since 2003.

Based on the 460kW/800Nm four-wheel drive Bentley Continental GT Speed seen at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year, the Continental GT3 concept makes the shift to rear-wheel drive to meet racing regulations and features a comprehensive aerodynamics package that includes a significant rear wing.

Finished in white with a patriotic livery that sees the car’s muscular lines joined by the British flag, the Bentley Continental GT3 concept race car already has the full support of motorsport’s ruling body, the FIA, with Bentley saying it will make its return to motorsport towards the end of 2013.

Bentley has hinted at running the car at 24-hour marathon events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where two Bentley Speed 8 prototypes claimed a one/two finish in 2003.

Bentley has long wanted to be back racing with CEO Dr Wolfgang Schreiber saying, “the Continental GT3 is the realisation of a dream we’ve had ever since the launch of the Continental GT.”

More details about the Bentley Continental GT3-contender are due to follow.
