Land Rover 110 SVX 60th Anniversary
December 2, 2008 by Alborz Fallah
There are two types of cars in the world, ones that get noticed and ones that don’t. The first category includes the likes of Aston Martin, Lamborghini, etc and now, we can safely say, it also includes the Land Rover 110 SVX.
The CarAdvice garage is currently blessed with the only registered example of this car in the country (pictured above) and as we drive it around Sydney, we have noticed that nearly every self-respecting male can’t help but to look.
The Land Rover Defender 60th Anniversary SVX Limited Edition is the supercar version of the Defender. Simply oozing cool as it drives through any part of town.
“For those who want the ultimate Defender, the SVX special edition boasts an array of modern comforts and custom designed features, without compromising the vehicles go anywhere capabilities,” says Roger Jory, Land Rover Australia’s General Manager. “It’s the ideal way to celebrate Land Rover’s 60th birthday, and only 82 customers will be lucky enough to own a piece of history.”
CarAdvice is currently driving AU model 03 out of only 82 individually numbered Defender SVX’s destined for Australia. Land Rover will only make 1,800 of the cars in total, making the SVX a serious collectors item.
The reason we say it’s the supercar version of the Defender is because it comes with a host of features never before seen in the Defender range. We are talking satellite navigation, Recaro seats, leather steering wheel, iPod compatibility, etc.
The SVX still has a very noticeable visual resemblance to its 1948 predecessor, but this one was specifically conceived to celebrate Land Rover’s 60th Anniversary.
Special features include satin black body wrap 60th decals, diamond turned five-spoke alloy wheels, tubular side-steps, reinforced aluminium front under shield, sunroof, heated seats, aluminum gear knob, and a Clarion audio system with sub woofer and amplifier
Underneath the skin not much is changed and SVX is still an exceptional off road vehicle. The limited edition model has a recommended retail price of $63,320.
Check back in about a week’s time for CarAdvice’s review of the SVX.
Further up north, our Brisbane team has been busy taking a FreeLander 2 to places most would think it could never go. Make sure you check the site in the upcoming weeks for that review as well.

OMG.. :-o
I was actually describing this vehicle to the resident Landy nut at work, saw it in Brissie either last week or on the weekend. Look great on the road.
This thing is uglier than the Mahindra Ute
This thing gets around.
I’m pretty sure I was next to it at a set of lights in Adelaide yesterday. Black with opaque/matt decals on the side etc, yep.
I was looking at it close enough and thinking nothing more than an owner tarted 110. I did notice the overall new shiny black painted appearance of its axles & suspension etc however so I suppose your’e right CA, it got noticed.
Sorry but no, its still mutton dressed up as lamb.
i second that WVB, i saw it in Adelaide on Sunday too, i noticed it instantley
looked very cool and stood out from the crowd, great machine
saw one of these near manly, sydney yesterday.
I painted a shopping trolley black and added mag wheels – it looked a lot nicer than this and used less fuel
I will admit that it does look quite smart, but I must ask, does it come with the things it needs? – a light under the bonnet and 24hr road side assistance. Land Rovers: Great, when they are working…
I really like these things.
Oh, dear God – Why???????
Might be impressed if it had a fording depth, but it doesn’t….
Ugly as a bucket full of smashed crabs.
We have one in lookng stunning in our showroom. They are a stunning looking car. …they even have carpet!!
I think this is absolutely ugly – and by ugly I mean fantastic. These look a treat in the flesh, and look like they mean business – even better than the Merc G-class.
Never designed to win a beauty-contest. In terms of the overall package this trumps it’s main competitor hands down – LandCruiser 70 series, which is about as Spartan as they come, and frankly, a little dangerous.
This thing should be sent to where it belongs, a museum.
Grammar Nazi, The 70 series landcruiser still trumps this landrover with easy!! The 70 series comes with optional factory fitted diff locks, and significantly superior motor!!
but no air conditioning
