Volkswagen Beetle spied topless

The next-generation Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet has been snapped by our spy photographers with its fabric roof both up and down and wearing minimal camouflage.

Caught in silver, red, and black, the new Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet test cars have some minor detail-hiding stickers over the headlights and tail-lights and fake stuck-on turn signals on the bumpers.

While the Cabriolet will follow sometime after the early 2013 Australian launch of the new hardtop Beetle, the fixed-roof version of the iconic Volkswagen Bug has already made its way into UK showrooms with a line-up of both petrol and diesel engines, ranging up to a 147kW turbocharged 2.0-litre TSI, also expected to power the Cabriolet.

The motors will all have a focus on efficiency and be available with both six-speed manual transmissions and dual-clutch DSG automatic gearboxes.
