Toyota Australia has launched its new Toyota Certified Used Vehicles program, providing factory-backed support and peace of mind for local motorists buying pre-owned Toyotas.

The used vehicle program attaches a 12-month/50,000km used-car warranty and 12 months’ roadside assistance to Toyota certified pre-owned vehicles less than four years old and with fewer than 100,000km travelled.

Vehicles will only be certified by Toyota once a minimum 90-point quality assurance inspection, which includes mechanical and appearance reconditioning, has been undertaken.

Toyota hybrid vehicles are included too with specific checks assessing the quality of the hybrid transaxle, control modules and battery.

Toyota Australia executive director of sales and marketing Matthew Callachor described the Toyota Certified Used Vehicles program as the next best thing to buying a brand new Toyota.

“It provides a ‘like new’ ownership experience by combining the value of a used vehicle with the confidence of purchasing a new vehicle,” Callachor said.

The program is the Japanese manufacturer’s equivalent to similar programs offered by German brands Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz and local rival Holden.

I’ve seen a lot of iPhone 5 bashing, but in the comments of an automotive blog?

does this cover vehicles bought from a toyota dealership only, or can you get a privately sold toyota *certified*?

Appears to be a creative new way of making money for the dealer$hips.

So it only applys to vehicles under 100,000kms and less than four years old. No doubt they’ll charge a premium for these over private used cars.
Why not just buy a used car from a different brand that offered a longer warranty to start with. There’d be plenty of used cars under 4 years old that had 5 year warrantys – or cars less than 3 years old but with over 100k on the clock, still covered by unlimitedK or 130K warrantys.
