Peugeot Onyx Concept Scooter: hybrid three-wheeler revealed

The Peugeot Onyx Concept Scooter is set to join the 507kW hybrid-powered Peugeot Onyx supercar concept at the French manufacturer's stand at the 2012 Paris motor show later this week.

Leaked details have revealed the three-wheeled Onyx-inspired Concept Scooter mirrors the copper and matt black colour scheme of the diesel-hybrid Onyx but doesn’t bring quite the same level of performance.

Powering the Peugeot Onyx Concept Scooter’s single 17-inch rear wheel is a plug-in hybrid setup that combines a 400cc internal combustion engine with an electric motor, to deliver 45kW of power and 58Nm of torque.

This provides enough mechanical encouragement to shift the sleek scooter up to a top speed of 150km/h while returning a fuel consumption figure of 2.0 litres per 100km.

The Onyx Concept Scooter’s range varies from 30km in EV mode (at 50km/h) to 500km when partnered with the combustion engine.

The Onyx Scooter’s other party trick is a removable storage ‘ClipBox’ located between the handlebars and seat that allows for two different riding configurations: Sport and Urban.

Sport sees the ‘ClipBox’ attached and the rider leaning forward in more of a sportsbike position, while in Urban mode, the ‘Clipbox’ is removed for a more traditional upright scooter position.

The Onyx Concept Scooter remains just a concept at this stage but it should still manage to generate some attention at Paris along with its show-stopping namesake.
