2009 BMW 6 Series cabriolet spied

By George Skentzos |

The new BMW 6 Series has been spied wearing some rather flamboyant camouflage, giving us our best glimpse yet of the new model.

Its appearance is quite odd, with our photographers capturing the cabriolet model before even having laid eyes on the coupe version.

This also confirms that the new 6 Series range will boast a canvas roof rather than the increasingly popular retractable hard top.

An apparently fake rear-window also suggests the cabriolet model will adopt the same recessed window arrangement as the current model.

The overall appearance of the new 6 Series isn’t expected to change greatly from the current model, although BMW is reported to have refined every panel.

The new coupe and cabriolet line-up will also mimic the current range on grade and engine type.

Hopefully they’ll get rid of the bangle-butt and make the front a little less stubby looking. That’s always been my problem with this car, the front is too stubby and understated but the back is too weird and ugly. I am also glad that they are not getting rid of the canvas roof as I am not a fan of the folding hard-top, especially in such an upmarket car. The hard-top idea is a little hair-dresserish to me and it should stick to the more budget convertible I say.

Looks like a late facelift to me, so i doubt the bangle butt will completely dissappear. There’s no way they are going to change from a rag top to hard top in a facelift, they would have to re-engineer the entire chassis.
Expect a new 5 series before a new 6 series.

I recon that if they where to sell these prototypes when ready and manufactured with the said bizzaro camo. paint job, people would buy them to be different, esp. our american brothers [and sisters]

    Cheers

The BMW 6 Series, nicknamed the F13, has started making a few appearances in Munich. The car seems perfect after you manage to get away from the optical illusion. The final version will probably have a hard top instead of the soft one and the overall design makes you think of the regular 3 Series.
