McLaren hypercar teased further in new video

The upcoming McLaren hypercar has been teased for a second time as the British manufacturer, famous for the iconic McLaren F1 of the 1990s, prepares to officially open the next chapter of its road car history at the 2012 Paris motor show in less than two weeks.

The new video expands on last week’s wind tunnel-inspired teaser image, with a kaleidoscope of laser lights imitating the airflow over the ghosted hypercar’s moving body.

The 60-second clip gives us a fresh insight into the new model’s general form and some of its major design points, revealing prominent front wheel arches and muscular rear haunches, a rounded front end with a sculpted bonnet, and swept-back elliptical headlights at the front corners.

McLaren says the lightshow provides a glimpse of what will be unveiled in Paris on September 27, with the manufacturer set to outline its future product plans and “unveil to the world its strategy to fast forward the world of automotive”.

Fans are hopeful McLaren’s new super sports car will prove to be equal to the challenge of being the spiritual successor to the F1 when it hits the road, reportedly in 2014.

The car is set to feature more dramatic styling than the somewhat conservative McLaren MP4-12C and, like the upcoming Porsche 918 and Ferrari’s Enzo replacement, is rumoured to feature some form of hybrid or electric powertrain assistance.
