The production version of the Peugeot 208 XY has been revealed ahead of the stylish city car’s unveiling at the 2012 Paris motor show later this month.

The 208 XY production car – which is almost identical to the XY concept that debuted at the 2012 Geneva motor show in March – will share the spotlight in Paris with the recently revealed Peugeot 208 GTi, which will give the light-sized hot-hatch segment a shake-up from 2013.

The 208 XY features chrome across the grille, side mirrors, window sills, foglight bezels and rear apron, as well as 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels with purple edging around the centre cap. The signature Purple Night exterior paint will be one of six available colours.

Inside, the production model misses out on the purple dashboard material of the 208 XY concept, but is distinguished from the standard car by its purple stitching, cloth/alcantara seats, aluminium pedals, and chrome highlights across the door trim, air vents and sides of the seven-inch central touchscreen.

Incorporated into the 208 XY’s infotainment system is Park Assist, which automatically reverses the car into parallel parking spaces either on the right- or left-hand side of the vehicle.

Other features include dynamic cornering lights, panoramic glass sunroof, dual-zone climate control, heated seats, and cruise control with speed limiter.

The 208 XY will be available overseas with four different 1.6-litre engine options, including 68kW and 85kW versions of a diesel powerplant, and 88kW and 114kW petrol tunes.

Peugeot Australia’s Jaedene Hudson said the Peugeot 208 XY is scheduled to launch down under in June 2013, around the same time as the 208 GTi.

The standard Peugeot 208 range goes on sale in Australia later this month.

Great car to have an interpersonal experience with my neighbour’s wife if she buys one.

As long as she gets tinted windows…

How saucy, you must both be quite small, but credit to you either way!

Thanks! We will be going to buy the car together actually so it will be tinted. Im not that small as Im about 5ft11. I really like this car’s styling and glad to see Peugeot is changing the shape of the front grille finally. I like really stylish cars not just outright performance so this one is really nice. We’ll be getting tinted windows but more because of the summer weather. We go for lots of nice dinners without her husband having much choice as things haven’t worked out. But really looking forward to this car coming out.

Interesting.. how very French of you! ;)
The car looks great by the way, I want the GTi!

  • Car2012

Definitely looking forward to the GTi. I am hoping that the GTi meets expectations. If Peugeot gets it right, it will be the next big thing; similar to the accolades bestowed upon the 86 & BRZ.
The DRLs (LEDs) between the grill and bonnet look Knight-Riderish; like it.

    Much better than the 207!
