Opel Australia has announced a capped-price servicing program and a standard three-year free roadside assistance package on the eve of its official launch into the local new car market.

The Opel Service Plus program applies to all three launch models – the Opel Corsa city car, the Opel Astra small car (including the Astra GTC pictured top) and the Opel Insignia medium car – and covers scheduled servicing for the first three years or 45,000km of ownership, whichever comes first.

Services will be capped at $249 for the Corsa, $299 for the Astra and $349 for the Insignia, covering all powertrains.

Opel Australia managing director Bill Mott said building strong and open relationships with consumers from the outset with offers like capped-price servicing was essential to making a successful local launch.

“Through the introduction from launch of Opel Service Plus and Opel Service Assist we feel that any potential customer fears regarding unknown or expensive servicing costs, or the lack of roadside care when it comes to a new brand in the market, are addressed head on with our programs,” Mott said.

All models will also come standard with Opel Assist Plus, a 24-hour roadside assistance program facilitated by Assist Australia covering the first three years of ownership.

All vehicles sold by Opel Australia will be covered by a three-year/100,000km warranty, matching that offered by General Motors sister company Holden.

Opel is one of a number of brands to announce capped-price servicing programs in Australia in 2012, following Holden, Hyundai and Kia, and others.

These are good looking cars. I hope they do well here in Oz.

      Hyundai are better..

Quote From Wiki ::Don’t eat the troll’s food…………

One day, a girl was at some place feeding trolls. A random person walked in, and started eating the girl’s troll food. The troll then eated the man. Unfortunately, the man had a cure for AIDS.On talk pages, there are trolls that troll people. When people argue back, that’s called “feeding the troll”. However, sometimes someone (who may or may not be another troll) will join the conversation out of nowhere and may will start insulting either the troll or the actual person. The troll will probably start trolling them now and then other person will go eat fast food. You’re making people fat when you eat troll food.

           ;)

          Aren’t you a Hyundai fan?

Anyway they are better than Open which is at the verge of oblobviousness..

Plus all these opels that we’re getting here are ‘last gen’

They’ll never beat Volkswagen who have officially created their own niche in Australia.. Perhaps once again a little too late for Opel.. ;)

          • F1

            Obliviousness*

          • Phil

Why did someone “like” your spelling correction? Or do you automatically “like” your own comments?

          • Phil

Opel sold 1.2 Billion cars last year. That’s on the verge of oblivion?

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Karl-Sass/100000921334936 Karl Sass

            Don’t you mean million?

          • Phil

Yes. Now what I should do is put in a correction and immediately “like” it.

          • F1

            I’m sorry?

Anyway just over 1 million is simply not enough to justify, after all Opel in EU is a sub-quality brand..

Plus these cars we’re getting in Australia are ‘last gen’.. So they simply decided to send over their unwanted dump to Australia..

Very unethical business practice, wouldn’t you say so Phil?

          • Phil

What on earth are you on about?

These cars from Opel are their current generation!

Also despite having their market outside Europe highly restricted, they sell more cars globally than Mitsubishi, Mazda, Chysler, Mercedes and Lexus - are those brands also supposed to close down?

  • gt86.com.au

if they are more reliable than VWs should sell like hot cakes.

    • 3D4

you and your hate against VW..  annoying, really..

      • Pro346

        The truth hurts….

      • gt86.com.au

I own a VW golf and Like it. I don’t hate VW, just making a non biased point.

        • 3D4

under almost every article even non VW related?

          • UMWHAT

gt86 could be on a biochemistry forum and still find a way to add in how VW are unreliable into the conversation

  • dsuhiti

They have done their research, deserve to do well.

  • Apple_r

It makes me wonder if who else will introduce capped price servicing, Mazda may be?

    • Phunken

Honda… they’re famous for expensive service for a Jap car

  • Ozgroover

Shame they don’t have the stock to fill orders. Personally being in contact with a dealer for about 8 weeks to get an Astra on launch and not being able to get one I think Opel have failed big time.

  • F1

Opel is a dying brand anyway.. They’re a weak spot on GM’s subsidiary list..

    • Phil

Oh? GM has different major subsidiary selling cars in Europe?

    • F1MotoGP

First 6 months of the year Opel sales in Germany:
      4th Astra 38112, 10th Corsa 29342, 24th Zafira 17993, 34th Meriva 14067, 40th Insignia 11898, ( Vivaro 1907, Combo 1514, Antara 1447, Agila 1429, Ampera 585) Total 118294

  • Geoffroberts007

first it’s Opel then Cadillac and finally Chevrolet……….then Holden will be gone……a sad day for Australia

  • Edward

This is definately a trend that i like. At the Honda dealer I pay as much as $700 for a major service and half that amount for a regular service on my Type R.

Obviously, i rarely visit the Honda dealer anymore. The guys at Auto Masters near my work are much better and honest.

    • Phil

You think the prices will go down with “fixed prices”? All they’ve done is set a standard price across all dealers during the warranty period. They’re not exactly reduced prices.
Go have a look at Nissan’s fixed price servicing prices –  plenty of $700 services in the price list, in fact some of their fixed priced services reach $1200. Also Holden when introduced fixed prices, they reduced the service intervals so you have to give them money for servicing more often.

  • Oil

Damn, oil changes are expensive these days.

  • Sam

These types of programs are rubbish, they should have those prices all the way to 100,000km and beyond. Obviously not include replacement of major parts like brakes and timing belts (should use chains).

    • Rocket

Unless it is a VE V6. Chains stretch before 100K and then run on 3 cylinders.

      • Bill

Rubbish, a well designed chain driven overhead cam setup will last the life of the car.

On some previous Astra’s the suggested cam belt changes were lowered to 60,000km due to breakages.

      • George

you do realise that for over 6 months now there has been a software update for VE and Captiva to fix the issue yes?
… Unless of course the vehicle has missed/run overdue for services and has actually stretched the chains

  • Tuzii

i went to opel parra and these cars look nice on the computer screen but in person they are really blah.

  • Zaccy16

VW should introduce capped price servicing!

    • Oh-oh_i’ll-cop-it-now

They would with it capped at $1,600 for DSG boohahaha

      • Zaccy16

        defiantly!

  • Joo

Opel/Vauxhall/Holden  =  The same GM rubbish. Opel is doing bad in Europe, always has. And Vauxhall is only sold in England, LOL. So much for GM having no confidence selling their cars under the same badge worldwide…
