2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S officially revealed

The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S have been officially revealed just hours after images and details of the all-new, all-wheel drive variants leaked online.

The four-paw Porsche 911 variants are available to order now, with Australian deliveries set to commence in the first quarter of 2013.

Prices have increased between $14,200 and $21,700 compared with the previous-generation 997-series models, with the 911 Carrera 4 manual coupe priced from $255,400 and the flagship 4S manual cabriolet topping the range at $315,000. The optional PDK dual-clutch transmission adds $5950 to the price of each variant.

The new models are equipped with the latest version of the German manufacturer’s PTM (Porsche Traction Management) all-wheel drive system, designed to maximise the vehicles’ dynamics in all weather conditions across a variety of road surfaces.

Distinguishing the all-wheel drive 911 from the rear-wheel drive version is its wider rear body (+44mm), with flared wheel arches accommodating 10mm-wider rear tyres.

The rear-end also sports a traditional red reflector band between the tail-lights and ‘4/4S’ badging.

The 294kW/440Nm 3.8-litre inline-six-powered 911 Carrera 4S coupe is the quickest of the bunch, launching from 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds and going on to a top speed of 299km/h.

The 257kW/390Nm 3.4-litre 911 Carrera 4 coupe isn’t far behind, sprinting to triple figures in 4.5 seconds and peaking at 285km/h.

Fuel economy has improved up to 16 per cent across the range, thanks in part to weight savings of up to 65kg.

New to the 991-series models is a menu in the instrument cluster displaying which wheels the power is being distributed to, as well as adaptive cruise control, which is optional across the range.

A sliding glass sunroof is also an option for the Carrera 4 coupe.

Porsche sold approximately 24,000 previous-generation all-wheel-drive 911s, accounting for slightly more than one-third of total sales of the 997 series.

The new 991-series 911 Carrera 4 and 4S coupe and cabriolet models will make their first public appearance at the 2012 Paris motor show on September 27.
