Amazed at all those poor reviews. I own a 2009 Colorado and have put over 140,000 on it. Serviced by the book and running great. I live in an area with dirt roads and where it snows a few times each year, sometimes a lot and this has not been a problem. It is a daily commute vehicle with a lot of dirt driving, tows three horse float every second weekend, heavy 4WD on occasions (member of local 4WD club) and cannot fault other than low clearance. Have it setup with ARB Diff locks, Cooper STT tyres, winch, Bull bar and canopy (saving for 2" lift). Sorry guys and reviewer above, but I find it a great car. Overall, not a city car to impress your friends if that is what you are after but I have found it to be reliable. Re price tag, I got mine close to 30K new plus on-road costs - so don't pay the top retail price.

I have a 2009 Dual cab Colorado LX,it started to get a light chirpind noise in it at about 100k's.Eventually got worse, generally at about 2000 revs.in all gears.Have had a new A/C motor, new hose from A/C to TX valve on the fire wall. Both screws that hold this to the condensor unit broke as they were rusted.
Had a new TX valve, new condensor unit in.While waiting for the new condensor unit, the engine was as quiet as.Soon as it was gassed up the chirping returned.
Have also had 2 new number 3 injectors fitted, valves re adjusted.Still the chirping noise is in it.
Just wondering has anyone had a similar problem. Holden have been pretty good actually trying to locate this noise but can't find it.

Interesting reading, I have a 2008 4x4 t/d and the only real complaint besides the turning circle (thats what you get for the long wheelbase)and the engine light coming on occasionally (which i ignore and usually goes out an hour later)is the lack of real seatback adjustment, just hopped in my bro-in-laws new navara and interior is fantastic. still, you get what you pay for. can anyone tell me if you can fit up either genuine (preferable)or aftermarket cruise and what is involved? must admit if it wasn't for the tray on rodeo (work) i would give it to the missus and take back the 96 cruiser, much nicer to drive even without the turbo.

Over the past 20 years I have driven 100,000s km throughout the NT and FNQ, very often on dirt roads and tracks, in the wet and the dry. During that time I have driven Landcruisers, Troopies, Hiluxs, Patrols, Rodeos, Colarados, Pajeros, Nivaras and Tritons. So when it came for me to trade on my 13 year old Landcruiser GXL I chose a Colarado LX. Here is why:

1. I am an outback person and need a tough outback vehicle that will also perform in town. The Colorado is fast off the lights, easily sits on the speed limit even the 130km/hr in the NT, tough, comfortable and quiet enough (I don’t understand the comments on noise but I have a 2010 model), without some of those frills which seem to break if you are a using a 4WD as they were originally meant to be used. I don’t want carpet, the sound system is quite adequate, air con is good, rear leg room the best for ant twin cab etc.

2. Economical to buy. I traded in an unregisterable rust bucket (yes my Landcruiser, we work them hard up here) and the change over price was only $25,000 on the road, plus $3,000 for a bulbar and towbar.

3. Economical to run. I get 8-9L/100km at 100km/hr, 10 if I am on bitumen going at 120, 9 at 130 (the limit up here). And it goes that speed with ease. But unlike many city folk I don't use 4WD just because it’s off road or dirt, just for the extreme conditions. Then there are the long service intervals. And I assuming I don’t stack it I will be able to trade it in three years for a new one and still be well in $$$ front from buying a shiny new Hilux today.

So if you are from the bush or even town, give one a go. Not the best 4WD in terms of frills for city folk taking the kids to their city school but good for the serious outback worker and traveller. And still perfectly adequate for around town.

And plenty of money saved for a vehicle that will suit 99% of most of our needs.

We bought a D40 Navara nearly 12 months ago to replace a Rodeo. Our horses are probably a bit lighter than yours but our vehicle does regular trips with the float in tow.
We had endless problems with the Rodeo that Holden couldn't fix. In contrast, the Navara doesn't miss a beat.
I think the clutch issue only affected earlier Navaras. We have had no problems at all.
The Colorado is definitely an improvement over the previous Rodeo, but I couldn't bring myself to consider it after the dramas we had. Additionally, I think it is a bit long in the tooth design wise.
Can't speak for the Dmax or the Triton but I thought I'd just give my opinion of the Navara that we bought.

I am looking for a twin cab tow vehicle, and have (like others) narrowed it down to Colorado and D-Max... BUT now am almost certainly going with the D-Max. I actually almost got conned into a Navara, but thank the Lord, for all you great consumers out there who posted all the clutch issues, so I (you all) saved my butt on that one!! The Triton was another possible runner but no-one (not even the sales guy) can explain why the weld back has a 2700kg towing capacity and the try back has 3000kg?! I have an ext\'d dbl angl float with kitchen (1200kg) 2 x HUGE warm blood horses (585 + 635= 1220kg) plus 3 saddles, gear++, stacks of feed, bins etc etc...I would almost always come in below the 2700, but it\'s nice to know the 3 tonne is there if you want/need it. The tray on the back of the Triton is HUGE!! really long, but I wonder does this come at the expense of the cab?? maybe it\'s an illusion, and in all fairness, I haven\'t actually looked at the specs and such, but it was just an initial impression wen I sat in there! (please don\'t shoot me down in flames all you Triton lovers!!LOL). The D-Max was just a little better on finsihing price with the extra\'s that we require (tow bar, roo bar, canopy, elect brakes, side steps) all coming in under $43700 D/A. The Triton was $47500. The Colorado price was a little better than the D-Max\'s, but the inside finish was a little disapointing.. I do want basic, as it\'s a work horse, but for a few extra bucks, I think they could have put lids on the consoles etc?!. They are a nice little ute, tho Colorado) and their colour choices are abit better than D-Max, but my float is white, so white will do!!!LOL.
If anyone as any info to help me finally decide between these 3, (or proove why the D-Max is NOT for me) I\'d be very grateful

I just recently bought an 09 colorado. I took it out behind Mt tambaz to test it out see wat it could do.. It handles well could go on every track except for one only because of clearance issues and if uve been out there some of the tracks are worse than landcruiser park due to no maintenance obviously so it wasnt a pussy 4wd it was pretty hectic lol. I pushed it to the limit few close calls but u know they said it was tuff in the adds so i gave it a good hiding.

NOW THESE ARE THE FAULTS I FOUND WITH IT WITH ONLY 564 KM ON THE CLOCK.

> THE HOSE FROM THE TURBO TO INTERCOOLER KEEPS SLIDING OFF

> THE STOCK WHEELS *LTR MODEL ALLOYS* ARE LIKE SLICKS, YOU HAVE TO HOLD URE FOOT FLAT STRAP IN 4WH TO GET UP STEEP HILL CLIMBS AND STILL DRIFTS EVERYWHERE, AS SOON AS THEY GET A BIT OF MUD ON EM URE F****.

> THE SUSPENSION STANDS STOCK AS LOW AS A RAV4 OR SOME OTHER GIRL 4WD IT BOTTOMS OUT EVERYWHERE!

>*********************************************************
AND TO TOP ALL THINGS OFF AT THE END OF THE DAY JUST BEFORE WE LEFT DECIDED TO HAVE A BIT OF FUN IN A STRETCH THICK MUD BECAUSE THE TYRES ARE ABSOLUTE CRAP I DECIDED TO GO A BIT FASTER THAN NORMAL SO I WLDNT GET BOGGED MADE IT THROUGH THE OTHERSIDE HAD SO MUCH FUN THOUGHT GO BACK DO IT AGAIN.....ON THE WAY THROUGH THE SECOND TIME UNDER THE MUD WAS HIDING A SMALL TREE STUMP IT HIT THE BASH GUARD, ACTIVATING THE TWO FRONT AIR BAGS SMASH ME IN THE JAW AND MY MATE IN THE GUTS, LUCKILY I FREAKED OUT AND KEPT DRIVING TO AVOID GETTING BOGGED NOT KNOWING WTF JST HAPPENED GOT TO THE HARD LAND LOOKED UNDER THE CAR EVERYTHING WAS FINE NOT EVEN A SCRATCH ON THE FRONT BAR AND THE F**** AIR BAGS COME OUT! CALLED HOLDEN THEY SCRATCHED THEIR HEADS, I BROUGHT IT IN THEY TOOK THE KEYS, THE NEXT DAY THEY SAID CALL URE INSURANCE COMPANY WE NOT COVERING IT.

**********************************************************

SO NOW EVERYTIME YOU GO FOR A 4WD IN URE NEW "TUFF" HOLDEN COLORADO BE READY FOR A BAG THAT HITS AS HARD AS MUNDINE TO JUMP AT YA IF YOU HIT THE BASH GUARD A BIT TOO HARD ON A 4WD TRACK SOMEWHERE, WHICH IS MEANT FOR A LITTLE BIT OF IMPACT "BASH GUARD".

F**** HOLDEN THEYRE BUNCH OF TYPICAL CAR SALESMEN THAT TREAT YOU LIKE A KING TO BUY ONE BUT WHEN IT F**** UP AND SH** HITS THE FAN DONT EXPECT ANY HELP OR EVEN FEEDBACK FROM THE DOGS THEY'VE HAD MY CAR FOR A WEEK AND A HALF AND STILL HAVNT CALLED, IM READY TO K.O A TREE IN THE BUSH WRIGHT IT OFF AND GET A LANDCRUISER V8 D.
